Hey, everyone. I'm a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley. While I feel like I had a good Freshman year, I don't think I've made very many close friends. Back in high school, all of my close friends and I did all of the normal teenage stuff (smoking, drinking, sports) but also were really passionate about school. We always talked about science, politics, economics, literature, and we tried to be as active in school as possible (ex. debate, quiz bowl, etc.). I want to find a similar group of guys at Cal: people who are down to have fun, but are also super passionate about school and are really involved on campus. Are there any frats that fit this description?

Smoking is not “normal” for any age group, and is less common among younger age groups than among other age groups other than the over-65 age group (presumably because many of the smokers have died earlier).

I think when he says smoking he is referring to weed. That is normal enough at Cal. I have a couple of friends in different frats that sound like what you do described above. You just have to check out different frats and see which ones fit your personality best.

Even with pot, regular users are a small minority, and even those who have tried it are probably not the majority of young people.

Well, in this context I take “normal” not to mean the majority but instead to mean not unusual. It is normal to play basketball but the majority don’t do that either.

There is a negative correlation between Marijuana use and GPA at Cal…
