Finding a roommate for an apartment?

well this is my first post, and I like this forum so far. I wanted to hear see what you think the best way to find a roommate to share an aprtment with is.
scenario:
-for the fall of 2010-
- far from home, don't know anyone at the college
- I will be a freshmen but because of certain conditions and also just the way I like to live I won't be living in campus housing.

How do I do it? Is it possible to use the dorm roommate matchmaker to find someone to get an apartment with? Also, is it crazy to want an apartment as a freshmen? and what is a 1 person apartment like, (the life and the expenses)?

I appreciate any thoughts you guys have

you can find roommates on craig’s list or newspaper ads, also websites like roommates.com. Another good way to meet potential roommates is through orientation, since many of those students are in ur situation. Living on your own temporarily (say 3 months) til you make friends in classes/clubs or find a roommate is also a good idea. Good luck!

Does the college have any rule about first year students living in campus housing? Check out whether you need to get a waiver.

What are your certain conditions? The reasons for your wanting to live off campus may influence the chance of your getting a waiver to live off campus if the waiver is necessary.

why don’t you live on campus first year, and then get an apartment for the other years?

Craigslist is the best way…just make sure you do a ‘preliminary meeting’ to screen out the weirdos

Don’t live off campus your first year…especially if you’re far from home and don’t know anyone

Can a Part time student live in dorms? thats my situation. I think Im going to go part time for a year until I get residency And I think that would require an apartment.

Considering the date of this thread, chances are the OP has found a solution by now.

But nice job plugging.
