Finding An Internship In Biotech

Hello,

I am currently a second year bioengineering student at a top 10 Engineering school. I really want to find an internship for this summer so I can gain some experience. Here's my worries though.

I don't really have anything to put on my resume. I am currently involved in one club on campus and have a bunch of things from high school but I was under the impression that once you get to college, everything is whipped out and you have to start clean. I really wanted to do some research in a lab but I am working at my school's library as part of my work-study to pay for college. The problem is that I am already pretty busy and I am afraid that if I work, do research and take a full course load, my grades would suffer. Can you give me some suggestions on what to do, regarding my resume? What are some thing that I can do to stand out to potential employers? And also recommend some websites for writing a good resume, especially for internships?

I was also wondering if someone could tell me what is the most effective way to apply to companies. I have been to several biotech company websites and all they have is place to upload you resume and they tell you that they will contact you later. However, when I did that last year, I got no replies back. I've talked to other people and they seem to be getting internships from their parents or close relatives. I don't have these types of connections though so how would you go about getting close to people in hiring positions? Any suggestions would help.

Thanks.

Ask your professors about opportunities they have for research and summer internships.
