finding job 1 year from now?

I am currently employed as of June 08.

I want to quit my job in October of 08 and go travel out of country until April 09.

If i am looking for a job NOW, Is it possible to find a job that starts in May 09?

How negotiable are start dates usually? 1 year is kind of a long time.

But, i would feel much more comfortable having a job waiting for me when i am out of country rather than finding one when i get back, as that could take a few months.

i dunno if that’s possible…

but i just wanted to tell you:

i’m so jealous of you. i hope i can afford to go travel out of country for that long.

It is possible–most companies will specifically ask you for your start date. While a 4-5 month hiatus might be common for graduating college students, I’m sure if the company really wants you, they will accomodate your needs.

So long as you’re up front about your start date, they’ll almost certainly accomodate you if they want to hire you.

unfortunately though, there is little way of knowing on when htye are looking for a employee to start for that position right?

id rather not interview with companies that i know cant accomodate me on my start date.

thats only available to discuss after the offer is given?

also with salary, what is the best way to find out salary of that position before yo ucomplete the interview process?

Wbb,

From my experience, companies will typically give you the luxury of choosing your start date. Even if they don’t, just mention when you want to start and if they want you, they’ll accept it.

Most companies would like for employees to start right away, but good companies just want to hire the right candidates, and they won’t care when they start. Just apply. It’s really not as big of a deal as you’re thinking it is.
