HL Chemistry (7)
Hl Chinese B (7)

So which schools would be a match, and what schools should I look at for safety? What category would schools like Duke, Brown and Yale fall into?

Many thanks in advance

Also, I am Chinese female living in New Zealand, and I would be needing financial aid. I got a 3 year $15,000 scholarship to go to the private school I am going to now.

“I am Chinese female living in New Zealand”

“I would be needing financial aid”

How much can your family pay? Something? Nothing?

Which options do you have in New Zealand or China?

For an international applicant who needs aid, every college and university in the US is a REACH except for the very small number that offer full-ride scholarships based on merit to international students, and those are only safe when the applicant actually has the specific grades and test scores necessary to be awarded those scholarships. See the list here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships.html</a></p>

Make an appointment with the counselors at the closest office of EducationUSA. There are two in New Zealand: https://www.educationusa.info/NewZealand</a> They will be able to tell you which colleges and universities here have admitted students with your grades and exam scores in recent years, and whether or not those students received the kind of financial aid that they needed.

My family would be able to pay something, but affording full tuition, especially at the top private unis, would be difficult. Does needing financial aid also decrease my chances at need blink schools such as Brown or Yale? What would be my chances at those schools?

need blind*

No, that’s the point of “need blind” schools – your need for financial aid is irrelevant to whether they accept you or not.

Some need-blind schools are not need-blind for int’ls. I don’t know which ones are which. I think Stafford is need-aware for int’ls, and maybe some ivies?? Not sure. Hopefully, someone here knows.

As for matches and safeties…

For an int’l that needs a LOT of aid, there may not be any safeties unless your family can pay at least $20k per year. There are some safety-type schools that will give some merit scholarship awards to int’ls, but the awards will likely only cover some/all of tuition, and your family would still have to pay for room, board, fees, books personal expenses, travel, and insurance.

Matches may also depend on how much your family will pay. Match schools generally don’t give great aid to int’ls…and some don’t give any.

You need to find out how much your parents will pay each year. You won’t get your visa unless you can show that all costs are covered.

What is your GPA on a 4.0 scale?

My family immigrated purely for the fact that they do not like the environment in China, so it is highly unlikely I would be going to uni in China, especially since that would also limit my career in the future and defeats the purpose of immigrating in the first place. Auckland Uni would be a choice but on the bottom of the list after Australian universities I will apply to if I cannot get into a decent school in the States

in New Zealand we don’t have GPA, but I did some research and according to this site https://sites.google.com/a/abc-net.edu.sv/abc-sats-and-psats/calculate-your-gpa</a> i would have a GPA of 4
and for some school I found scholarships that are not directly linked to another party which would offer full tuition plus living expenses etc to attend to that university, so that would help quite a bit
apparently there are only 6 unis that are need blind for internationals: yale, stanford, MIT, dartmouth, princeton, harvard. I was wondering if I would at least have a chance at those schools, and maybe what I could do to boost my chances?
