Finding Match Schools

Understandable. Well, you’re a solid applicant and I feel as though you are going to be a desirable candidate wherever you apply. :)

Thank you for your thoughts. Any others?

Bump. Get this kid some more thoughts!

@CentralFC, I was just wondering, you found schools like WUSTL to be realistic options. Do you find JHU to be a realistic option to apply to?

Apply wherever you want. Don’t limit yourself. As long as the amount of applications you decide on going with won’t hinder the quality, you’re fine. Go for a few “reaches” and several in that 10-20 range as long as they have what you’re looking for. Ignore prestige and look for practicality and where you’d be happy at. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be fine.

Okay. So any schools besides maybe HYPS would be realistic at this point? I want to make sure I’m being realistic. Thanks by the way.

Bump. 10char.

I think your list looks realistic. You have great stats and excellent ECs; obviously nothing is certain with the top schools, but I think you definitely have a chance of getting in. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1367096-chance-me-ucla.html

Oh and as some people said, I think you should try taking the ACT. Your SAT scores are good, but might be a little low for some of the top schools. You should probably try to bring them up or see if you can do better on the ACT.

Thanks, i am trying the ACT, I am getting 33’s-34’s on practice tests. However i dont want to assume that score until I go in and get it! Any others?

I agree with your above list. You could be eligible for honors program or presidential scholarship at Georgia tech…what do you think about that??

I would be interested in something like that. Thank you for that info. Bump.

Bump. 10char. Are there senior members who are very knowledgeable of the process who might help?

Bump 10char.

The only slight blemish is your SAT score, which isn’t impressive at top 15 schools. Your chances would be higher if you can raise it to a ~2250+ (or take the ACT in sept also and score a 34+). Class rank is perfect and EC’s are very good though.

You have a good list of schools, but I would change it a bit and say Cornell and Georgetown are low reaches, and NYU is close to a safety.

But what do YOU want to study in college? I can help you more with schools to select with what you wish to possibly major in. Also will your family expect enough financial aid to send you to private schools like cornell that cost $60,000 per year? If you will have to take on serious debt to attend such schools (more than ~$40,000 in debt), then you may want to limit your list to state schools and schools that offer serious merit aid (full rides, full tuition scholarships, half tuition, etc).

I am thinking very seriously of a double major in English and Biology and going into Patent Law. Yes, finances will be difficult but I was seeing the top schools as “full need” and am saving my internship money (close to 6,000 currently but will also save next summer) for college as well my family would still need to figure out what they can chip in on. It’s been a hectic year. However, seeing as I really would like to pursue English and science and would also like a nice campus life (I.e. sports, like lacrosse and nice town). What do you suggest? Thanks BTW

Well you need to visit schools so I can’t help you too much there but some schools you may be interested in are Duke, UVA, UNC Chapel Hill and USC.

Might look at Holy Cross-very good school 1 hour from Boston. HC HAS ONE OF THE BETTER alumni networks and its campus is very .nice. Holy Cross competes against the Ivies in most sports. Holy Cross is one of the few schools that is need blind(OFFERS GOOD FINANCIAL AID). The HC WEBSITE is very informative.

Yeah. I am going to have a big August visiting schools. UVA has been in consideration, but didn’t like it on the visit (bad weather, tour guide). I have been told by many to visit again, so I will. Duke will also definitely be in consideration, it completely slipped my mind! Definitely will be visited. Thanks a lot for your chancing.

Thanks a lot par72. I will definitely consider it.

Any other thoughts?
