Does anyone know when we find out where we'll be living?

from the website: (http://www.mcgill.ca/residences/undergraduate/admissions/assignments/)
You will be notified within two or three weeks of the reply-by deadline (June 15) of the HALL to which you have been assigned. Room assignments are done shortly before move-in day and you will be advised of your room number when you arrive.

(They also want to emphasize the following-)
Room assignments will not be available until you check in - please do not telephone in advance and ask for your room assignment, the staff will not be able to tell you.

that link just came in the nic of time....i was just about to buy my travel tickets. Why do they not allow us to move in before the specified move-in date? What happens if we move in after the 24th? I'm not paranoid, just wondering if there is nething i don't already know

hah.. i wanted to move in the weekend before.. at new rez its an extra 65$/night

When I went up to the "cafe connect" thing, they said june 5th or 6th we would find out.

so... do you know now or do you not?

When we find out the hall, do we also find out what type of room we're in?

I can't imagine they'd make us wait until move-in day to let us know whether we're in a single or double room...

i found out my assignment last year around the mid of july- or maybe late july... honestly don't remember but they will send you mail for it.
OR you can call them (which they say you're not supposed to do, but i did anyway) and they'll tell you what room you got and what rez. woo

shoot, i previously said june 5th or 6th, i meant july 5th or 6th. sorry if this caused confusion... i'm so bad with months.

so then when will we find out who our roommate is if we get one? On the site it says that Aug. 23 is only for certain residences and the 24th is for the others. So that doesn't leave us much flexibility, does it? I heard line ups are pretty long..it's going to be really chaotic. I can't decide when to get my ID card either. For Canadian students we can get it at the beginning of August, but then I'd have to make another trip up there. Although I would avoid a lot of lining up in the heat, I guess. Would it be wiser to arrive early to start moving in or closer to the end of the day?

Does anyone know if the $1,000 deposit due June 15th for housing is refundable?

I think it's partially refundable, depending on when you cancel your reservation. If you cancel before Aug. 1st, you get all but $300 back. If you cancel Between Aug 1-22, you lose the full deposit. If you're any later than that, you have to give them double the deposit amount.

So, basically, if you want to cancel, do it as early as possible, I guess.

wow, that's harsh.

well if ur set on going the deposit gets credited as a payment on ur room later on so it's not that bad.

just don't try to move out... $$$

if you hate ur room/rez, just go try and transfer dorms/rooms at the residence office
