My daughter found her roommate this way last year. Things worked out and they have been compatible. Seems like it would be better than having the college randomly assign someone to you.

@ umdclass: Having the college randomly assign someone to you isn’t always bad. My suitemates and I had the college randomly choose for us, and we’re now great friends with each other and planning to live together off-campus next year. Though of course, not everyone’s that lucky.

Yeah, I’d generally say that it will probably be fine either way. My friend found his roommate before school started, and they got along really well. My roommate was randomly assigned, and we also got along really well. You might have a slightly better chance at getting along with your roommate if you choose each other, but since it’s so hard to judge what living with someone is like, it may not be significantly better. I’d go for it though if you want to.

We decided to be roommates - she asked me! I’m super excited. We’ve seem to have hit it off nicely… (:

I was fine with having a random roommate, though, to be honest.
