I'm looking to find similar colleges so I can expand my college application list (at this point it consists of three Ivies and a state school!) The thing is, I'm not too enthusiastic about going to a liberal arts school. I'm interested in biology and want to become an entomologist (that's a bug scientist) but I also like to write. On the old SAT, I got an 800V/650M, but that was as a sophomore. I also got a 30 on the ACT, but that was as a 7th grader, so my stats aren't very helpful. Since my stats are relatively high, right now I'm ignoring cut-offs unless they're absurdly low.

So, here's my list:
Yale
Brown
Cornell
University of Florida

My maybes (this was supposed to be a list of match schools, but most of them are liberal arts schools that aren't much less selective than the Ivies):
Stanford
Bates
Bowdoin
Swarthmore
Dartmouth
Haverford
University of Chicago
Haverford

Can anybody suggest schools similar to the ones on my original list, but less selective? Is there a particular book or program you've found to be useful in expanding your college list?

If you don't want an LAC, don't focus on them. Some other schools you might look at: Johns Hopkins, Tufts, University of Rochester, Case Western Reserve, Wake Forest, Washington U in St. Louis, Tulane, Emory, Boston University, and Vanderbilt. You might even throw in the University of Miami as a solid safety. Good luck!

willow, why don't you apply to UMichigan right away. They have rolling admissions and they'll let you know whether you're admitted within about six weeks. If you get in you could use it as your safety then concentrate on your reaches and matches.

UMich is a great school similar in ambience to Cornell and Stanford. Excellent sciences.
