Any current college students find high school unbearable for whatever reason (lack of challenge, social life, etc.) and find college much better? Why?

I'm asking this because junior year really sucks right now, lol.

I love college. The friends are way better and actually like you for who you are besides superficial reasons. The dating scene is much better and you definatly learn more. I definatly find college esp. since I live on campus! You can private message me for more info. on my perspective :).

High school blew. Massively blew. College is much better, you're with intellectual peers, though this does vary. You have total freedom to do WHATEVER you want. Bottom line up front? College is, by far, superior to high school in every aspect.

High school was better for me. The freedom in college is great, but I haven’t had a great time because I go to a commuter school Make sure to go to a school that doesn't empty out on the weekends. That's why I'm transferring.

I think high schools offer some things that college really doesn't. First, everyone runs on the same schedule. This is very convenient for socializing whereas in college you have to try to set up meetings with friends and it takes more effort. Second, there are more activities in high school such as dances, assemblies, etc. that you don't get as much with college. Third, the people you attend high school with you probably already know for years so it's much easier than in college where you start with a clean slate. Fourth, it's easier to get involved in high school because activities don't require as much commitment and let's face it, ECs actually matter for college so you feel like you have to do some whereas in college people either join 1/2 clubs or sometimes no clubs at all. Now in college's defense, I will say that there is more freedom and dorms help your social life quite a bit. Pretty convenient to just walk down the hall instead of driving 10 blocks to see a friend.

"I think high schools offer some things that college really doesn't. First, everyone runs on the same schedule."

Keep in mind everyone has different things going on, and the freedom to make your own schedule is crucial.

"Second, there are more activities in high school such as dances, assemblies, etc. that you don't get as much with college."

And who exactly cares about those things? Honestly. Because I sure as hell didn't in high school.

"Third, the people you attend high school with you probably already know for years so it's much easier than in college where you start with a clean slate."

Again, this depends on your point of view: would you rather stay stuck with the same group of friends or get out there and actually meet new people?

"Fourth, it's easier to get involved in high school because activities don't require as much commitment and let's face it, ECs actually matter for college"

Again, depends.

Why college leaves high school in the dust:

1) Diversity

High schools tend to be homogeneous or maybe duo-geneous because of regional factors. But in college, you'll meet all sorts of people from Black prep school kids to Egyptian internationals.

2) Shared intelligence and ambition

No matter how much of a slacker a college student is, if you go to a decent level school, pretty everybody is smart and ambitious. Therefore, you won't find yourself having to dumb yourself down or pretend that your prospects solely include next weekend's keggar.

3) Community

Only true if it's a predominantly on-campus school, but everybody lives within minutes of each other. Much better than having to catch a 20 minute bus ride through the city in order to visit your best friend.

4) No parents

Everybody loves their parents, but after 18 or so years, it's time for a change.

^I wish #2 was true for my school.

Well I luv the new schedule (no more 8-3 dayz!) the new people (finally I know ppl who are smart & athletic) And jus the overall atmosphere.....Its way better man just get thru high school and youll be much better.

Make sure to pick the college you go to based on how much you actually like the feel for it, and not solely on rankings, as you may not have much of a better experience ;).

This is huge. I picked a college because I thought it looked nice, it had a great rec center, and had nice weather. Big mistake. Make sure you pick a college where people actually stay on the weekends. Look for a college that is situated in a college town.

^ That's very true because I go to a huge commuter school, and alot of people don't like it! I actually stay on campus, and I love it. I can't speak on my part for the intelligent people because I think there's a lot of idiots at my school. Besides what colleges do you guys go to? *just out of curiousity
