Fine Art Credit

I am applying for colleges and I feel like I have a lot of things going for me. I have a 2200 SAT score, I will have 8 AP courses under my belt by the end of the year, good EC's, etc.

One thing I am worried about is that I don't currently have a fine art credit. I have a practical art because I took culinary as an elective one year but no fine art credit.

Will schools look down on me because of this? I know that the UC schools have a fine art credit requirement; will they absolutely deny me if I don't have a fine art credit?

I am considering taking the AP Art History exam to meet this Fine Art requirement. Is this a good idea? Is it unnecessary?

I'll appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I believe that you will not be UC eligible if you don’t meet that requirement. Not eligible = easy deny. So if you want to apply to a UC you should satisfy that requirement via the AP exam.

There are “admission by exam” and “admission by exception” for those who do not have complete a-g course requirement coverage, but expect to be held to a higher standard if you try for one of these routes.

[University of California - Subject requirement](<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors) describes other ways of fulfilling the visual and performing art requirement.

Note that South Dakota public universities also have an art requirement for admission.
