I am writing this letter to ask the appeals committee to reconsider reinstating my financial aid. I am appealing my financial aid suspension because of difficulty to maintain a proper GPA. during the Spring semester I was having difficulty with my speech class I did attend my professor office hours for advice. But I failed to do more in order to be more successful in this class. I was not sure what to except and learned that my study techniques were lacking, resulting in my poor grades. I failed to seek assistance from a tutor in a course that I struggled with.
I have since enrolled myself in six credit hour summer courses to help raise my GPA, but due to my circumstances I have been rendered ineligible to receive a summer loan. Without the summer loan I will be unable to take the summer courses needed to raise my GPA. Which will prevent me from continuing my education here at buffalo because I cannot afford the cost of supplies, fees, transportation, and personal expenses. Receiving financial aid will allow me more time to study properly. Without it, I will be forced to take time away from my studies in order to work. My academics are my first priority and I have since devoted all of my time to them in order to be successful in the future.
Review your grammar and punctuation and re-post.

During the Spring semester I was having difficulty with my speech class I did attend my professor office hours for advice. But I failed to do more in order to be more successful in this class. I learned that my study techniques were lacking, resulting in my poor grades. And I failed to seek assistance from a tutor in a course that I struggled with.
I have since planned to enroll myself in six credit hour summer courses to help raise my GPA, but due to my circumstances, I have been rendered ineligible to receive a summer loan. Without the summer loan, I will be unable to take the summer courses needed to raise my GPA. Which will prevent me from continuing my education here at Hofstra because I cannot afford the cost of supplies, fees, transportation, and personal expenses. Receiving financial aid will allow me more time to study properly. Without it, I will be forced to take time away from my studies in order to work. My academics are my first priority and I have since devoted all of my time to them in order to be successful in the future.
First of all, delete the first two sentences. Totally not needed.
Second, there are still grammar and punctuation mistakes. This is not college level writing.
Younare asking the school to give you aid for SUMMER? Why? Schools typically don’t gove aid during the summer term, and if they do give you loans, those loans will reduce the amount you need to pay for the school year.
Your are trying to persuade them to give you financial aid…because you won’t be able to,study sufficiently without it?
I think your letter is significantly lacking in the essentials schools look for.
- What have you already done to help yourself remedy your class situation.
- What will you continue to do when school resumes so that yoir grades will be sufficiently high.
- You mention ONE course...but frankly...even failing one course would not put you in an appeals situation IF you were doing well in the other courses you took ALL year long.
- What was your GPA after your first term? What was your ending GPA?
1.98 overall is NOT only because of your speech course. I would suggest that you address your OVERALL academic issues, and not blame this on one course.
What was your GPA after your first semester?
can i put that i struggled during my first semester being that it was my first year at the school and after that semester i was able to pass all my classes but i realized that my study techniques was still lacking and i have since made changes to fix it
You were probably on academic probation after your FIRST term…and didn’t exactly do what you needed to do to improve your college grades that second semester. And it was NOT because of ONE course.
What have you done to change your study skills…and what EVIDENCE do you have to show that? This sounds all speculative to me…it’s not like you already took a bunch of courses and got better grades because of whatever you did to improve.
You passed all of your courses…but not exactly with great grades.
What have you actually DONE to improve this? That is what the college is going to want to know.
So you raised your GPA from 1.46 to 1.98 in one semester? If that’s true, I would emphasize that. And you need, what, a 2.0 to remain in good standing? A 2.5? How close are you?
And as @thumper1 and the others have said; tell them SPECIFICALLY how you did this and what you will do to improve even more.

I am writing this letter kindly requesting the appeals committee to consider reinstating my financial aid. I am appealing my financial aid suspension because of difficulty to maintain a proper GPA. During the Spring semester I was having difficulty with my speech class. Although I did attend my professor’s office hours for advice, I failed to do more in order to be successful in this class. I did not participate frequently or ask questions in class because I was unable to overcome my fear of public speaking. At the time I was not sure what to expect and later learned that my study techniques were lacking, resulting in my poor grades. Ultimately, I failed to seek assistance from a tutor in a course that I struggled with. After the fall semester my GPA has increased, showing that I am very much capable of doing well in school.
I have since enrolled myself in six credit hour summer courses in an effort to further raise my GPA. Due to my circumstances I have been rendered ineligible to receive a summer loan. Without the summer loan I will be unable to take the summer courses needed to raise my GPA. Without financial assistance I will be unable to continue my education here …..Unfortunately I cannot afford the cost of supplies, fees, transportation, and personal expenses. Receiving financial aid will allow more time for me to study properly and excel in my courses. Without it, I will be forced to take time away from my studies in order to work. My academics are my first priority and I have since devoted all of my time to them in order to be successful in the future.
@poblob14 since 3 semesters
You haven’t changed anything substantial in that letter. But if you think it will work…fine.
Really…you are asking your college to throw good money after bad. Why would they find summer school for you when you give NO evidence of how you have addressed your poor academic showing thus far.
The schoo. Is under NO obligation to provide you with need based aid for the summer when you did NOT do well during the academic year. In addition, you have shown NO evidence of how you have actually CHANGED what you are doing.
All you are asking for is money…and you are using your financial status as a reason the school, should honor your appeal.
That is NOT the issue. The issue is you did not get good enough grades…for two semesters.
It doesn’t look like you did much different the second term from the first.
And again I say…your academic standing is NOT because of ONE speech course. It’s your overall academic GPA that is in question…and you have not mentioned ONE thing you have already done to prove that you will be capable of getting higher grades. If you HAVE already done something…put it on that letter.
that’s what my financial advisor told me to put because i will be receiving loans my gpa has increased just at a slower pace
