Finished 2 years of CC 2.58 GPA In last year failed one semster and dropped the other

I lived in America for 14 years and decided to go to a community college due to financial reasons. I wish to see the possibilities of restarting my undergrad program because of my goal being so bad and because I feel I wasnt fully prepared for college and also had personal and family problems which made it worse. I am a bright student and am fully capable of getting a 4.0 gpa, but certain situations made me fall behind and I would not be able to catch up and ultimately it would affect my grade.

I then had to move back to India due to family reasons and was not able to finish my degree but still wish to complete my college education in America and obtain a MBA in finance or BA with specilization in finance.

I am here asking you because I feel that due to my grade I will have no chance at getting into a good 4 year university to finish my bachelors and then move onto a good MBA program. I feel that I have wasted my first 2 years of college and that if possible restarting it would be best if possible. If not I would like to know the other options that are possible.

I also am now a international student since I moved to India.

You can mentally restart, there is nothing to stop you and that is the best course of action. But all your transcripts must be submitted to all colleges. So you need to continue with community college work until you can get a record that looks good for transferring into a 4 year. You might have gone for two years but it doesn’t look like you have two years of credits. You could retake classes you got D or F in if your CC does grade replacement. The US has a plethora of good colleges–literally hundreds of them. Your best bet may be to transfer into the state system where you went for your CC.

Thanks BrownParent for the advice.I have planned to go back and try to get admission into a different county college close to my house which would fall under a different county. It will be hard but looks like I will have to study hard and try to fix my transcript to the best that I can and hope to transfer to the best 4 year program.

My only question is that when would be the best time to transfer to a 4 year program. When I have the best gpa I can obtain or when I have completed my 2 year associates degree. I also took 2 science classes in the last semester at college because I thought about switching into a bio major but failed both of those classes because I was not able to finish them because I had to move and also because it was too late to drop the classes. So would I have to take those science classes again to fix my gpa or would the college that I transfer to not care because I am applying for a finance degree.

Thanks you
Any help is appreciated

First advice would be to raise your GPA up. Yes, personal excuses may come into consideration during admission, but your grades will always be number one priority.

Determining what you want to study is very important because you have to take classes that match the program offered at your future university. So choose your major and try hard to stick with it. I saw people change their majors multiple times and waste lots of time and money. Colleges want to know that you have a clear goal in your field of study, along with good grades in your major classes to accompany your determination.

I’m currently a CC student as well and I am getting an associate’s degree because my counselor told me getting the associate’s degree shows my ability to complete college work, at least. I recommend you do the same and wish you the best luck!
