My only advice would be, don’t be so preoccupied with fitting an ivy mold. If you’re passionate about math then take it, pursue it as best you can. Don’t let the vague possibility of being attractive to ‘top tier’ schools, of fitting some rather arbitrary paradigm of what constitutes the “impressive,” become your primary motivator. That’s a slippery slope.

Finished Algebra 2 Honors Freshman year and want to know what math I should take next for Ivy League

@abstract1 I am definitely passionate about math and it is my top subject. I would like to finish all the AP maths I can in high school to get credit for them. Since Stats is supposed to be easy and only needs Algebra 2 as a prequesite, I though I would just take it since there is a college Stats book I could use and local library for prep books. Will there be any differences between the material in the college book and the material in the AP text book?

@geekybro, is your school block scheduled? Can you double up on math and take AP Stats along with Pre-Calculus? Going the calculus path is good because you could take AP Calc.

What major are you targeting? That makes the answer different. There are people who get into Harvard with no calc in HS.

@tacoperson My school has block for two days of the week. My school doesn’t allow sophomores to take AP Statistics, you have to be a junior who finished pre-calc or senior who finished algebra 2. They allow sophomores to take Ap Calc but the level of math I am in is not enough so I thought I would self study it if it is easy because they can’t stop me from taking the AP test.

@rhandco I haven’t decided my major yet but I do want to get math credits because like I said before it is my top subject

Note that Harvard has a particularly well thought out Math placement program for those who have skipped Calculus by taking it in High School. I was quite impressed when I heard it explained on the engineering tour.
