for the OP, i would not consider UVA a safety. more like a match.
safeties would be like Virginia Tech, James Madison, maybe VCU as a super safety, as i mentioned before.

i have friends who applied to UVA (instate) with the similar stats as the OP, who got deferred ED.

I agree with pretty much everything the others have said. I think given that you are applying to all the Ivies, that your resume is good enough that one of them will accept you. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get into any of those as well, but I think you have a fair shot. I bet you will get into NYU, Tufts, William and Mary, and probablly Georgetown.

Also, this is very random, but all of your interest in the Sudanese conflict(which is both impressive and very cool, I've been trying, albeit feebly, to get more attention to Darfur at my school) makes me ask this. Have you read/heard of the book "What is the What"-Dave Eggers. Its about one of the Lost Boys, and it's really, really good.

^^^ Agree. UVA is not a safety school, even for candidates with stronger records than the OP.

^^ yeah even i don't consider UVA a safety, and i'm instate with a 1560/1600 SAT, near perfect GPA, dedicated ECs, great recs, etc., etc., etc.
UVA admissions are pretty random too, as i 've seen people with lower stats than me get accepted and those with similar stats get deferred...
but then again, my GC's all like , UVA is a safety, but i don't consider it one.
V Tech is pretty much the only safety on my list :(

I got my thoughts mixed up lol. UVA is an amazing school. What I meant was that sudaneya4ever should apply to a definite safety. Then (separate thought), I wanted to suggest to sudaneya4ever a good school within VA where sudaneya4ever would fair well in the applicant pool (match).

Sorry about the confusion. I blame the fact that half my supplements aren't completed yet =)

umm.. this is obviously going to shock most ppl who were pessemistic on this thread.. but i got into Duke (semi-finalist for robertson scholars program) and William & Mary (with full tuition)... i am yet to hear back from the ivies though! will keep you posted! i'm not too nervous though because i'm in love with Duke!
