Finished First ACT Practice Test...Feedback?

So I just finished my first ACT practice test surprisingly time wasn’t much of an issue but I did have some trouble with time of course but nothing too concerning in my opinion. Only thing I’m concerned about is science and reading of course but for science I had to guess on like 5 of them because I ran out of time but they were lucky guesses. I was wondering if my score was a good place to start from or not? Also how should I prepare so I can get at least a 33, I’m willing to work a lot for it so I know I can do it if I study a lot. I know 6 points seems like a lot but I think I can get my math and writing up.

Composite: 27

Writing: 28
Math: 28
Reading: 25
Science: 27

Also I should mention that I haven’t studied for the ACT at all. So any basic prep books you think would be helpful please let me know! Thanks in advance!

Hey! Nice job on your first practice test! I too got a 27 on my first practice ACT test. I ended up getting a 33 on one test and a 34 on another for a super score of 35, so your goal is definitely obtainable. For me, it was a lot of practice. I personally enjoy Barron’s ACT test prep book as well as Barron’s ACT 36 book. The latter really gave me the confidence to master the more difficult problems on the test.

@SJ0823 How long did you study for with those two books? Also, did you use the official ACT book at all?

What should I use as a diagnostics test? An official one or from a website/book?

I just looked up one. You can google act practice test 2016 - 2017

My case was a little different because I originally thought I would be better at the SAT than the ACT so I studied for and took the SAT before I event thought about the ACT. In reality the time I spent prepping for the SAT (about 3 months) really helped when I was taking the ACT. But speaking only to the ACT I spent about a month prepping for the ACT the first time I took it and then I spent another month prepping before the second test I took. I personally didn’t use the official ACT test book, but I did download some old official ACT tests to take.

if you dont mind me asking how much did you improve from the first to second time and what did you use to study? @SJ0823
