Finished!

Last exam was yesterday. I have officially finished my freshman year here...It has been an experience! To incoming transfers and freshman, congrats! To all the seniors (who are most likely not reading CC) congrats! And now, summer...with excellent classes :).

Notes for CC people:
-Try to finish the Iliad, and perhaps a couple of other books before arriving on campus.
-Start planning your four years, with a major in mind. It helps when registration comes around.
- '10ers, Frontiers of Science has been discontinued (Lucky people)
-You can try your luck with profs, however, when in doubt, there is Culpa.
-Try CO

Frontiers of Science was already dropped!? WOW, people must have really hated it...there's a facebook group dedicated to it being a crap class, haha.

I liked the topics, I just thought that the class was distributed awkwardly. We would have class talks, and have to post "discussions", weekly problem sets, and a 1.5 hour lecture (which half of the class slept/surfed the net through, even when world renowned Professor Broeker was taking the stage). It was a FOUR credit class, in a school where Gen Chem Lectures are 3.5 points, and Calculus I up to IV are 3 points each. I think that they should have allowed the students pick areas (1-2) that they were interested in under the realm of Frontiers, to study all semester, instead of giving us a supericial glossary of 4 broad topics (which differ each semester). Now...I have Gateway to look forward to. I have heard both complaints and praise from the SEAS kids, but overall it sounds interesting (I especially like the community applications that they emphasize).

Frontiers was stopped? Weird, I still see it on the official schedule of courses for next fall.

Are you a CC student? If so, why are you taking gateway?

My section leader said the Frontiers program just received a Howard Hughes (I think) grant to continue it for 5 more years.

frontiers wasn't dropped (would've been all over the Bwog by now) and Bing's right, it just won a Howard Hughes grant

Try COOP (especially hiking). My daughter is one of the leaders. :)

Elleneast, which Philadelphia suburb are you from? I'm from Exton and will be at Columbia in the fall as a Transfer Sophomore.

The same basic area. I am in Radnor. I hope that you enjoy Columbia and NYC as much as my daughter has. She is already sad at the notion of leaving and she hasn't even started her senior year yet.

"Gateway": I transferred to SEAS.
"Frontiers": I didn't check the course syllabus, but was told at the beginning of the year that Frontiers was stopped. If this information is false, I beg your pardon.

COOP was more enjoyable that the freshman week (NSOP). Try it if you can (COROP fills up the more quickly than the other two).
