finishing more pre-req before applying = more competitive?

if i take the second english this summer i will be done with pre-reqs but i will take less units cuz english is hard.

if i dont take english in the summer i will be able to take more easy ge classes.

should i take english in the summer?

…sure

Lolz 10char

thanks guys!!! what a helpful community!! you guyz iz the bestest evarr!!!

After looking at who got in and who didn’t last year. I would say that pre reqs are THE MOST important factor when applying given that your GPA is reasonable.

So there you go. one man’s opinion.

I’ve heard nothing to refute this from people associated with admissions and transfer advising. They want people who have shown not only good general academics, but potential/interest in a specific field. Obviously the IGETC is required, so things like lower division pre reqs might not mean anything for certain majors (such as mine where all you have to do is complete the IGETC to meet the requirements). However, if you’ve shown that you’re willing to take other classes that don’t necessarily satisfy pre reqs but do demonstrate interest, it helps a lot.

What’s a reasonable GPA for a noncompetitive major in LA/B/SD?

I’d say 3.7 up to be safe for LA/B. 3.5 for SD.

Don’t even worry about non competitive majors at SD, especially with TAG. No reason not to TAG

The OP is only three sentences long and gave me a headache to read, so I vote that you take more English classes.

Whoa that’s a really difficult question. And remember I am NOT an adcom or anything like that BUT i’ve spent a lot of time studying these sorts of things.

For UCLA W/TAP i’d say competitive is 3.5ish for most majors (not comms not business econ etc)

Without eh 3.65 to be safe.

But they are really sticklers for prereq completion. Ive seen 3.4s get in with prereqs done and 3.9’s get rejected.

Berkeley seems to depend. I’d say UCLA is a lot more numbers oriented than berkeley. berkeley seems to take into account other factors so I really have no idea. It depends. Berkeley doesn’t make their numbers as readily available as UCLA does. Write a killer essay.

UCSD…3.0 with a TAG

@Mortimer
I’ve never seen anyone apply to a noncompetitive major with complete prereqs and a 3.6 get rejected though.

Me too, I’ve been studying these patterns. I’m really worried given that the applicant pool will be bigger this year, and there is a good chance of the average GPA rising.

I checked the Cal average transfer GPA, last year it was around a 3.75-3.78, now it’s 3.7X - 3.80.
