I know you guys have probably heard this question many times before. But I just couldn't find a direct answer to my question while searching, so I'm asking you guys.

I will be finishing up my 61 units by the Summer 2008 term. I will not have over 60 units by the time Spring term ends. Now, I know that Berkeley lets you finish your left over units to go above 60 in the summer session before coming to Berkeley. But I am not sure about UCLA, and no matter how much I searched I could not find the answer. So do any of you guys know whether UCLA lets you complete the 60 units in the summer term before transfer?

When I went on the MyBerkeley thing last night to update my Fall grades and what not, it stated that Berkeley does not allow you to finish up your units in the Summer prior to the Fall you are going to attend (as in, you can't finish up your 60 units in Summer 08 if you're going to attend Berkeley in Fall 08).

But then when it had me fill in my major prep classes, it said you CAN finish these major prep classes the summer prior.

I clearly remember this because 1) it was only last night and 2) it was kind of shocking/surprising to me to read that.

I recommend you consult all available official UC Berkeley and UCLA admissions employees to be 100% you know what you're doing regarding this matter. It would suck to get burned just because of confusion.

well i know someone did it at UCLA. and I read somewhere that you could do it at berkeley.

the link that KGZotU posted says that you cant do it in summer before UCLA but I dont think thats true because I know someone that did it. ALSO, it says that UCLA doesnt accept lower division transfers, when CLEARLY if you check the statistics, they did accept a couple hundred students lower division. I think its just that they dont wnat to encourage it thats why they said no on the link.

I had a friend who got into Berkeley last spring and accepted their offer. He took a math class during the summer semester which was supposed to fulfill his math requirement. However, once Berkeley found out that he didn't complete that class by the end of the spring semester they rejected him in the summer while he was taking the class. It was terrible news but somehow he was clueless about that rule.

To be safe I would highly recommend that you take a full load this semester and just reach the sixty units by the end of the spring. That way you can relax this summer or take other classes that you want to take.

Mobilemayhem- I don't see how your friend was denied because I got in for Spring and I finished up a major prereq (calc 2) this past summer. I even called my admissions advisor and asked her to adjust my admissions contract. I'm good to go and about to move in in a few days. Why didn't it work for your friend??

what mobilemayhem is saying doesnt quite add up. because you said your friend was accepted and then rejected because berkeley found out LATER that he was taking a class in summer to fullfill his requirements?? How can that even be possible?? All of the classes and the amount of units that we take or plan to take MUST BE reported on the application, SO he had to have reported that he would be finishing his 60 units in summer. Which would mean that they already knew. And if in case he didnt report that then that means he was giving incomplete information, which is PROBABLY why he got rejected. Your story doesnt quite add up. Please let me know.

P.S. I am focusing MORE on UCLA then berkeley so your responses about UCLA would be much more appreciated.

Ok, so the consensus is that Berkeley allows major pre-req work to be finished during the summer, but you still need to have enough units (60sem/90qtr) by the end of spring to be considered for admission?

ok... generally to be competitive... you should be done by spring for Berkeley.. but i've seen ppl finish pre-req during summer to change major!

Let's say you're considering double majoring.

You have all of the pre-reqs for one major completed by Spring, but still have one or two classes to take to fulfill the other major's pre-reqs. You are admitted based on your first major(which you have all the requirements completed for), so your plan of double majoring is not known to the university.

Can you complete the pre-requisites for the other major the Summer prior to enrolling in the Fall? If so, would you take them at the CC or during the university's Summer session?
