Fire Charlie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I haven't been online for awhile.

I know that Notre Dame alumni are notorious for their impatience with losers.

As a Notre Dame alumna, I'd like to conform to type.

I have waited for this man, Charlie Weis, to do something with the Irish football program now for 4 years. I have been patient. I have bought the excuses about the program Ty Willingham ran into the ground, and how brighter days were on the horizon, and blah-di-blah-di-blah.

Fact is, though, some bonehead gave this man a 10-year contract. A 10 YEAR CONTRACT! Worth millions of dollars.

This is not a kids' little league team we are talking about. This is not some JV gridiron squad in the middle of nowhere. This is Notre Dame football, and a man who has had FOUR YEARS to prove that his coaching abilities come anywhere close to the scale of his ego.

Watching this first half of the Irish getting positively schooled by San Diego State, I think it is time for Charlie to go....

Now, how 'bout taking the remainder of that 10-year contract, divvying up the cash, giving it to some professors who deserve it. My son's book bill was over $800, my daughter's book bill was over $900--maybe we can get a piece of the big fat Weis contract to cover it?

Seriously... I'd say fire Kevin White, who was the idiot that signed Weis on for ten years, but, mercifully, he's already out the door.

On the upside, maybe I can scalp tickets dirt cheap again this year, and go up and visit the kids.

Even Gerry Faust was better than this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give him this year. It is hard to say yet how this team will be. It was a bad first half, but I was at the West Virginia (ranked 8th) vs. Villanova (D1-AA) and saw Villanova run over WVU for a half. They came back and won big (and I am hoping they will do the same today against ECU). People are always rusty in the first game. Let's see what this team can do in the second half, against Michigan, MSU, etc. If this team doesn't make a bowl game, I agree that it is time to make a change.

If a change is made, how about Skip Holtz at ECU? Again, I am not calling for it, but just a thought.

I miss Brady Quinn!!!!! Hang in there, Irish! As far as football contracts--I am in the middle of football country and have witnessed some pretty large contract buyouts. So, it can be done-I'm just not advocating it right now and please don't do it at the cost of tuition.

The papers said ND was a 20 point favorite. I think my daughter is ready to give up on football. I am so frustrated.

And I thought Gerry Faust sucked back in the early '80's. Everyone on campus gave up then, too. By my senior year, I started scalping my tickets for the extra cash, and picked up hours at my off-campus job at Corby's during the games. That way, I got to watch the Irish suck, but made twice as much money...

Notre Dame AL, you are right. It's not worth the cost of a buyout! Let Charlie stay out his term and endure the public humiliation.

It's still a good school, anyway...

What is it they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall? Charlie ain't petite, and this ain't pretty....

By the way, I think Mr. Claussen ought to cut his hair. I don't think he has earned the right to be flashy...

Keep this in mind--ND is a top 20 school academically. We are there for the academics and I remind everyone during football season of this fact!!!!!! Go Irish!!!

ND has enough tradition that we should be in the top 25 every single year. With the recruits we have, I am surprised it took so much for us to win today. I am nervous about next week...I am having a Michigan grad over for the game!

Irish I think you should be worried! I hope you're doing well.

Did anybody really watch the game? We controlled pretty much the first half! (not to mention the whole 4th quarter). You guys fail to realize that it is not Charlie Weis fault for stupid roughing the passer penalty, missed fg, fumble at the 5 yard line, miss handled snap at the goal line, and interceptions that were not the QBs fault. I understand the concern, I was at the game about to have a fit, but I am just saying some things are on the players and not Weis, and the players will get better and hopefully stop making those crucial mental mistakes! So give it some time guys.

It's way too early in the season to be making these kinds of calls. While I don't disagree with them entirely (and I know it has been four seasons) you have to realize that the outcome of the game is not just the coach's effort, but the entire team's effort. Once the team collectively realizes its potential, they'll work towards it. You should have noticed the difference in the players' demeanor between the end of the first half and the end of the 4th quarter (even before the 3rd TD).

Michigan will be a huge indicator. They similarly had an "ugly win" victory today like us and are having a re-building year. Next week is a pretty big deal.

But UNLIKE them, we show a lot more support for our team. I'm disgusted by how students at UMich will boo their own players and call a 23-25 loss a "crushing blow..." completely exaggerated given the context of how things have changed in the past year.

We are ND...it means so much more than it sounds.

anyone else notice how clausen just looks at one receiver the whole play? It's like he decides in the huddle who hes going to throw it to. Floyd beat man up coverage almost every time downfield, but clausen would just try to force one to tate or grimes. Which I guess worked out OK in the end.

I saw it! He barely checked off his main read...

Actually, not to defend White, but I believe Jenkins and the board of trustees gave him the extension in the first season. White was against it, but it doesn't matter now, our hands are tied.

Don't give up yet, I think TY was fired too early and don't want the same for Charlie. Give him this year at least.

And remember last year we went 3-9. Opponents aren't scared of us anymore, and their isn't going to be that drastic of a turnaround overnight.
I was happy most of our mistakes were stupid, but correctable and the turnovers could kill us, but we could have beat them by a lot more.

The biggest concern I saw was the lack of passion. Receivers weren't going for the ball, Hughes looked slow going to the whole, etc...

Chill, and after last year, a wins a win.

Ty was fired too early?!? Lol I for one am glad we fired him, he is a great person and all but look what he is doing to Washington's program...

I think everyone should get 5 years, but that's hard now a days, especially at a place like Notre Dame.

I saw the Oregon/Washington game and although I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ty Willingham, I have to reluctantly admit ND made the right decision and UW is going to have to make that same decision soon. It feels awful to say that as I have heard Ty insists on a standard of behavior from his players that is better than average.

I watched most of the game but turned it off in frustration near the end of the third quarter. Yikes.....this is going to be a Loooooong season.

If anybody wants to scalp a ticket I"m looking for one for the game on the 28th Sept!

Sweet win yesterday, hopefully a sign of things to come.

Yeah, their win even made the front page of the Sunday sports section for the Chicago Tribune. Pretty good deal right there.

haha ohhh DD :)
