so whats the least amount of time you guys have slept in a whole school day (just those 5 days)? mine was probably 8 hours in a really bad week when we had tests almost everyday and all the procrastination caught up with me.

You've never slept less than 8 hours a day? Or did you just type that in wrong? It seems like you mean a week, in which case it was probably around 30 hours for me.

lol yea i meant week. the least amount of time ive ever slept in a week was about 8 hours

Monster energy drinks are very helpful, but if you're doing work that doesn't require deep analytical thought, I would suggest listening to fast paced music, it will help you stay alert and awake.

Suggestion: when pulling an all-nighter, take power naps every one to two hours or so (I've found that my optimal power nap duration is 17 minutes; yours might be different). If you do, it'll be much easier to stay awake the next day. Also, in my experience, all-nighters are more productive if I periodically refresh myself in this way so that I'm not half-asleep when I work.

However, what's more important is that you manage your time well enough so that you never have to pull an all-nighter in the first place. Easier said than done I know (also from personal experience :P).

I cannot do power naps, they do not help, as I just end up sleeping. I can't do the napping thing, I'm too much of a heavy sleeper to do it. I just stay up and stay active. I have to be doing something, either writing and doing some problems or typing away at the computer.

You can't really tell if I've slept 16 hours, 1 hour, or my regular 8, as I can just pull it off. Usually when I'm off, I'll just blame my lack of sleep even if I get 16 hours. Most people don't know that I am pretty good at being active without much sleep so it's an excuse that I can pull out time and time again. :)

Naps can work well... if you are able to wake up! Sometimes it helps me, but it screws me over when I wake up at 6:30 and it is time to go to school. If you don't wake up then you're screwed. What will happen to me is every time I have an all nighter... or I only get like 3 hours of sleep or so, I always tell my self that I'll never procrastinate again. Three weeks later the same thing happens lol. I find that it isn't the homework that is so bad, it is just the nights before tests that cause me to stay up for most/all of the night. This is probably because I do my homework as quickly (but neatly!!!) as possible and therefore the material doesn't stick. My advice: Get whatever h/w you have for first and second period done right away... even if it is the most time consuming. Then if you have a nap and don't wake up till it is time for you to go to school you can (possibly) do some studying for later classes and/or do h/w for later classes in your first two periods or at brunch/lunch. Granted I know this is sometimes not possible because of certain teachers or certain activities at lunch and such, but that has definitely helped me get some extra sleep on some days.

Wow long post.

EDIT: Well QuixoticRick I completely agree about naps. You posted while I was typing so I didn't see your post, and therefore would have probably written less about napping if I had seen your post. Nice excuse btw. :)

I will probably be pulling an allnighter tomorrow.

This is the most horrible week ever, currently it is:
2 tests tomorrow (Econ; teacher has no idea what she's saying, and French)
1 test Thurs (Math; don't understand)
2 tests Fri (Stats, Physics; don't understand)
Lang reading/annotation due tomorrow
Lang reading/annotation due Thurs+"pop quiz"
Lang edit note (weekly grammar hw) due Thurs
Lang OP ED due Thurs (in depth analysis of an OP ED from the Times, basically a short paper)
Read 150 pp of a novel by Thursday
Write Rough Draft of paper on the novel/another novel by Friday

That is on top of regular math, french, stats, econ, and physics hw.

oh and I have trouble with naps too. Nobody can ever wake me once I sleep.
If i want to sleep, i SLEEP.

Welcome to the club.

One day, this was my hw schedule (all due the next day):

1 15 Page APUSH Paper about a President
1 4 Page APUSH DBQ
1 5 Page AP English Final Draft about crap
60 Pages of APUSH Reading

needless to say our APUSH class was on the verge of declaring war on our tyrant

my first all nighter was camping out on black friday. not on academics; the irony haha

im a freshman and i havent pulled any all nighters yet. :)
the latest i stayed up was probably 2:30am but then i woke up at 7:30 so it wasnt that bad. but i cant get my body to get to sleep BEFORE 12:00am. it just wont let me :( oh and i also find that if i eat when i get home, ill usually nap around 5 and wake up at 9. then im always fresh and can concentrate on my hw. but sometimes i dont have any hw so i cant sleep! ill probably pull some all nighters soph/junior year

I am a junior this year and in AP classes but I have only stayed up until midnight, and that was only once. I just do homework over the weekend.

only one and that was on an airplane on some 6 hour trip

Please, PLEASE just conserve your time and don't wait to pull an all-nighter. . .we, as teenagers, especially need our sleep! I pulled hardcore all-nighters during summer@brown and they were AWFUL. Not funny, not fun. That's just me though. . .:/

I haven't pulled any all nighters yet, but it may come soon if I don't get cracking on my mock trial stuff. I'll probably try for at least four hours of sleep, since I do indeed need to function the next day.

I have pulled soooo many all nighters you guys would be jealous, but i usually will take a nap during the day to help me out.

I hate redeye flights for that reason. But it seems that you don't really have a choice when flying from the west coast to the east coast, outside of getting up at 4AM to drive 2 hours to San Jose.

Horrible weekend
It's 4AM and I've currently done 23 pages---two more sections to go.
!@#$%
