I have gotten A's all my life and today I got my report card and I have a B in my science class and to make it worse it's not even a science class that is considered higher level or AP or honors or anything, just normal. I feel like a complete idiot...I tried SO hard and it just wasn't enough.
I want to go to an Ivy league college, will this ruin my chances? btw im a freshman

what do you do? you do your best now since you can’t change the past.

and no, one B will not kill your chances at ivy leagues. although I think you shouldn’t stress so much about getting into the ivy league. don’t make that your definition of success.

well I still have like 18 days until final grades go out and I still have the final to take… I mostly have a bad grade because my teacher always messes up my assignments and “loses” them and then doesnt give me full credit when I redo them.

“I want to go to an Ivy league college, will this ruin my chances?”

You probably never had much of a chance in the first place because that’s how selective they are. If they reject you with the B they would have rejected you without it too.

No.

“I feel like a complete idiot” Let me concur with your feelings. You completely lack the perspective to even understand your situation. You honestly think only 4.0 students get into top schools?

And even more silly: the OP apparently thinks that simply having a 4.0 gives you a chance at getting into an IVY, to heck with those other factors like SAT, recs, essays, ECs, course rigor, etc.

Its simply amazing how many misconceptions the OP can reveal in just a few sentences. Here’s another: IVY should be a goal, as if the education and experience at Brown or Columbia, Dartmouth or Cornell, are going to be so similar that getting into any one of them is as good as getting into the other.

ksinke

Did you do everything you could have done to have gotten a better grade? If so, then be proud of the grade you received. If not, what could you have done differently. Learn from it.

In your case – After the teacher lost the first (or maybe the second assignment), what could you have done differently to make sure that s/he got them on time? or if they were lost, that the teacher knew it was his/her fault and didn’t penalize you?

Learning how to protect yourself against an absent-minded teacher who loses things is important, (and may be more important than anything taught in the class). Should you have to do so? No, not in a perfect world – but the world is not perfect, and it won’t get better as you go through life.

In other words, how can you learn from this. I ask this because you may have the same problem some day (or even in college).

Apart from that – don’t sweat it. One B won’t kill your college chances.
