First choice: McCombs. Second choice: something easy -- what exactly?

Ok, before anyone judges or yells, I really really want to go to UT.
I also really really wanna go to McCombs.

But if I don't get accepted, I need a good safety major (such as education) that would also be easy to switch out of.
And yes, I most absolutely know it is difficult to do an internal transfer into McCombs.

My question is, what should my 2nd choice major be?

Undergrad Studies or undecided.

Yea. Undergrad Studies is like the backup school where people stay until they figure out what they want to major in. You could also just do COLA - Economics since you plan to get into the business school. UGS and COLA are both easy to get into. Just pick one.

Thank you!

Why do you say it is hard to transfer into Mccombs. On their website, their transfer accpetance rate was like 70 percent which seemed very high

I would choose to do

cola: economics

In my opinion this looks better on an application than choosing ugs/undecided
because it shows you have a certain direction you want to go into and you wont settle for less.
choosing ugs just shows that you’re desperate to get in for anything at all.
just my opinion though.

either would work

Canefreak, everyone who transfers to McCombs knows what the prerequisites are and what the required GPA is. Do you really think people are going to apply if they’re not even close? Hence, your 70% acceptance rate.

Canefreak, McCombs internal transfers average a 3.7 GPA…and Calc K and L (or equivalents) plus Micro and Macroeconomics have to be completed as prereqs. I’m attempting to do this right now, and it is by no means an easy feat.

Damn!

By the way, I spoke with UT, and they said that they will still review your application even if you don’t make it to your top 2 choices. So, essentially, you have nothing to lose by selecting the 2 most popular intended majors - you can still be admitted to undergrad studies.

No offense, but I find it kinda weird that no one around here ever said that… especially after I asked. Kinda goes to show just how helpful info on the internet can be.

To be honest, and this goes for anyone applying to colleges right now, if you ever have a question about admissions, just call and ask the college. They will give you factual info…

Still, thanks to everyone! I think I might do McCombs as option 1 and Communications as option 2.

You’re so right. Each high school has their own admissions advisor and their email is available on the UT Be A Longhorn website. Find yours and direct your questions to him/her. They will send you the direct links that answer your questions. You can also call them.

Plus, so many things change from year to year. For example, 2 years ago BHP (or maybe just McCombs in general) was giving Zero scholarships for incoming freshman (saying scholarship $ would be available for sophomores+), then last year they said, umm, no, well, we realized we were losing a lots of top students to other universities, so guess what, now we are going to give the scholarships to incoming freshman and no $$ for sophomores+. So I have no idea what they are doing this year!

Please excuse my pathetic grammar. I was thinking outloud.
