have you seen the group for Amherst 09ers? Theres maybe 15 early decision admits there.

Stanford is my first choice.

i got turned off from pomona by its many curriculum requirements

amherst has no requirements - check it out, yo

when i did an over night stay, my host and his room mates said that pomona was planning on dropping most of its curriculum requirements. maybe they just said that so id like the school more, but none the less. its true amherst does have 0 requirements besides the freshman seminar thing, which is pretty cool

Pomona probably WILL drop some of the requirements, but at the EARLIEST that will affect the class of 2010, not 2009. And considering how slowly the process of review and change happens in academic institutions, the requirements could be the same way for the classes of 2011+ as well.

So the class of 2009 will likely still have to suffer the distribution req.s

omg amherst's sat averages have risen to 722 and 721 this year

Yea, it's interesting that SATs went up but acceptence rate rose as well. maybe they're trying to cast a wider net?

PM me if anyone's interested in the Amherst 2009 group... we have 20 members now

Amherst is definitely one of my top 3! But it all depends on the financial aid package.

same here rjsmith, except its four between columbia, amherst, dartmouth and swarthmore

between Amherst, Dartmouth, and Penn

Cmon all you smart kids... don't you know that "among" is used, for listing more than 2 objects? "between" is used only for 2 choices...

but ya'll knew that

you go, fire! teach 'em that grammar!

i'm applying to amherst RD. it's in the middle of my choices.

also applied to binghamton, wellesley, swarthmore, harvard, and columbia. i'm not getting my hopes up for the ivies (or even for amherst, for that matter) since i think my midyear report may well do me in.

if i do get accepted --hypothetically-- i'd have to visit again to make up my mind.

I think Amherst is my first choice.

Yale is my first choice (deferred EA). After that, I have no clear second choice; Amherst, Brown, Wesleyan, Haverford, Vassar, and Bowdoin all have an equal shot, and I would visit each one again if I were admitted, and only then would I decide.

Amherst, Stanford, and Swarthmore are tied as my first choices.

stanford's dorms are gross. i've stayed in a bunch of them for summer programs.

i liked swarthmore too.

i thought the amherst dorm i overnighted in was gross. i stayed at valentine.

valentine is old and has its problems but it has a hardcore group of people who love living there.

fire, you should seriously become a tour guide when you go to amherst. you'd be the ideal candidate because you'd make everything sound a whole lot better.

I think Williams is my #1... but BARELY... Amherst, Brown, Columbia are second tier, is favored a bit out of those 3 ...
