First Choice

What's yours, if you have one? If you got into every school, which one would you go to?

Me= Choate

And don't say nothing, I know all of you felt some kind of attraction toward one school more than the other. ;)

not that i hate choate, but i just hate the road that sticks in between campus...and the town choate's in...well...uh....not good

Le Rosey!

I am taking the entrance exam within a couple weeks....and I really want to do well!

You'll do fine with Le Rosey. :D

I don't mind the roads at Choate, actually. The town is sweet, but I can see how people can compare it to something like Yale/New Haven.

The posts on this thread illustrate why the visit is so important. One poster loves the campus while another is less enthusiastic. My son applied to Choate, although it was not high on his list. Then we visited the school. We loved the campus and the town, although the campus is a little spread out. The people were wonderful, also. The visit completely changed our perception of the school. He was accepted but decided to go to the school that was number one in his heart from the beginning.

Loophole, could you quickly tell me some stats of your son? I'm applying but I'm hoping I'll get in. I have a few connections to the school.

What school did he go to?

Taft.. for sure, i just love the school.

Yup, but I'm not applying to Taft.

Exeter, 'till rejection do us apart. :D

Loop hole what were your son's stats and where did he end up going?

My son applied to Exeter, Andover, Choate, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, and St. Marks. He was accepted by all. But Exeter was always his number one choice and he is currently a senior there. He scored in the 99th percentile on the SSAT. The test was scored on a different scale at the time and his score was 1045/1050. I believe the test is now scored on a 2400 point scale. He had excellent interviews. He is very outgoing and has no problem talking to adults which is helpful in those situations. The Choate adcom told me that his answers to the questions were unlike any he had ever heard in his many years of interviewing. He also wrote very good essays. He tried hard to "think outside the box" when writing them. His recommendations were very good and adcoms from two of the schools told me that they were the best they had ever read. He is also very passionate about the sport that he plays which came through loud and clear. These schools want kids who are passionate about something and not just collecting ECs for a resume. OK, that's enough bragging. Remember that it's the entire package that someone presents which counts, not one individual thing, as Burbparent has said many times.

There are a lot of equally talented people on this web site. I can tell from their thoughtful, intelligent posts. Although everyone wants to go to the name schools, everyone needs to remember that everything works out for the best. Burbparent has also repeatedly mentioned considering some of the lesser known schools. I second that wholeheartedly.

I agree with Loophole. Admissions considers the whole package, not just one aspect of someone's application. Also, a long list of ECs is sometimes a detriment because it doesn't indicate a passion for anything.

For me it is andover...or perhaps exeter or st. paul's....hee hee.... ;D
i have 3 first choices so i wont be crushed if i dont get accepted at one of them.

EXETER
enough said lol. :D

Pedddddddiiiiiiiiiie !!
Peddie. Yes.
::faints:::

I think I will restate that my first choice is EXETER. It deserves more than one post. In fact, I will post again in the near future. :D

From all the people I know who go to BS, Andover seems to be the most laid back one, which is my personality, work hard, play harder...haha I had the oppurtunity to go visit there but unfortunately, I had numerous important evaluations at school. At least I have experience with a boarding school similar to Andover (St. Andrews College in Canada)...it's pretty darn fun while working hard.

But the thing is, my whole resume is not as impressive as the rest of you guys.....nor do i have an amazing passion of something

Deerfield. But I didn't apply.

It is now the future. My first choice is EXETER. :p

hm ChaosTheory, may i ask why you like exeter so much?
or wat makes u like it so much?
just a thought or question :)
