I actually have decided this is not my final order.

First Choice: Andover (idk)
Second Choice: Hotchkiss (low), Loomis Chaffee (35%)
Third Choice: Choate [negative 50% (the interviewer disliked/sneered at me)], NMS (maybe high)

1st and only- Exeter (Very very very very very low)

For my son:

Since he only applied to one boarding school:

1st choice (amongst boarding schools): Lawrenceville (solid chances - legacy has to be worth something, doesn’t it? :))

Of course, they may look back at the school records and notice the time that I… oh, never mind.

1st choice: Andover (low-20%)
2nd choice: Exeter (low–20%)

only applied to 2, i realllyyyy want to go though

my 1st and only–Andover ( very, very, very…low)

C’rella, you applied to only one BS and it was PA? High risk play. Needles to say…good luck.

same with violindancegirl:
1st PA
2nd PEA
both almost non-existant.

I really dont have any first-second choices though. Being accepted by either 1 is really good enough

I don’t get it. Many folks on this thread applied to only PEA and/or PA. They must be very pleased with their current schools because the acceptance rates at these two prep schools (less than 20%) tell me that many of these applicants will be back attending their current schools this fall. Why put all eggs in one or two baskets? There are so many other wonderful baskets out in the BS hen house. Oh well, each to their own. Again, good luck to all.

I’ve heard from a few posters the reason for only applying to A/E is because they either want to leave for some of the best schools or not go at all, i think because it isn’t worth the money for the same experience one could get at their public high school most of the time

I think it shows how far I’ve come that I now get annoyed when people start talking as if HADEs or A/E are the only BS that count. When I first came on CC i admit I was of the same mindset and yet now I think it just constricts your view of great schools.

Toombs…I agree with you, only 2 schools??

One of my top reasons for considering bs is that i am in city with crap schools, and I want better for my d.

There are so many wonderful schools. I will admit my selection of schools had to contain schools that would give FA because of our family income. But surely it was more than just A & E

There are so many wonderful schools, not only St. Grottlesex ( sorry, I’m old school, just cant cotton to the HADES acronym ).

Alexzmom - didnt mean to steal your words! Just noticed…and I only read the first few posts of this thread until now…too funny…

@sadie…not a problem…i wish i had found this forum much sooner, I would have made even better choices for my d

I am applying to only PEA and I don’t see anything wrong with it; I have hope.

There is nothing wrong with applying to only one great BS. But if you want to get into a great BS, applying to only one BS is risky. Very risky. But if there is one and only one BS great enough for you, then keep digging your one hole and may you strike oil soon.

Look at it this way. Andover says the admit rate this year is 15%. An alum told me the alumni admit rate is 43%. So the unaffilated student’s rate is even lower that 15%. Don’t take it personally if you dont get in.

catg, thanks very much for this info on the legacy accept rate at PA. If this rate is correct, I’m surprised that someone associated with PA would share it with you. With such a stunning, if not numbing, high admin rate for legacies (if true), PA would do, I think, all things possible to surpress the dissemination of info about this rate. Such info, if true and well known, would lead to vastly less apps to PA, it seems to me. (Note: If this rate is so, then PEA and SPS can’t be far behind.) Hence, I have to think that the 43% admit rate at PA for legacies (a) can’t be true and (b) may be true, but, if so, we humble readers of CC, along with the remaining great unwashed, would never know whether or not this rate is right because PA would hide such vital info from the eyes of all but the utmost high and venerable priests of PA admissions.

But the legacies are usually well prepared and talented also.
They were trained by their parents.
