First D in elective class! Admission rescinded?

A lot has happened to my life that influenced a horrible first semester of my senior year. I’ve NEVER done as badly as I have this year and I’ve already been accepted to CSULA and CSUF. I’m terrified that my admissions will be rescinded even if I get into the rest of the schools that I applied to. I got a D for the first time and it was in an AP computer class so it isn’t an a-g course and my GPA went down to a 2.8 weighted. If I do better second semester, will I still have a chance? Is there anything I should do right now?

Look at the conditions of admission you were sent, as well as any “after you apply” instructions from other schools you applied to. Many colleges will require you to notify them immediately if you change your schedule or get a grade below a C. For example Chico has this: http://www.csuchico.edu/admissions/documents/applicant_change_form.pdf and I’d bet the other CSUs want something similar. Odds are you are ok, but that’s just a guess. In fact, all anyone here can offer is a guess.

The people that do know work in admissions, and the earlier you start to work with them the more options to take care of any issues this might cause; there’s going to be few alternatives if you bury your head in the sand and wait until they find out when they get final transcripts this summer.

What you should do, IMHO, is notify every school you applied to about the grade. Facing one’s problems, however unpleasant, is a sign of maturity and you want them to think the best of you. You’ll likely get back letters asking for an explanation. What they’re looking for is you to explain the circumstances, take responsibility if need be, and explain why it won’t happen again. Sometimes people take their eye off the ball, sometimes there is a significant disruption or illness in their family, etc. The one thing you don’t want to do is blame someone else (eg. “that horrible teacher Ms. Jones”) for the problem.

The conditions of my admission say : — Complete all your remaining A-G coursework with grades of “C” or better.

Is AP computer science considered A-G? I already have all my credits, it’s just an extra class.

And I will notify my schools of the grade drop, thank you
