First day of class

I heard from some people that we're supposed to go to all of our lectures on Thursday, even if 1) we don't usually have that class on Thursday, and 2) even if we have a discussion for that class. Can someone clarify?

Also, if anyone's taken History of Modern Thought -- did you have to read The Prince by the first day of class, or just have it? The email Professor Jacob sent out was kind of unclear.

Thanks in advance!

my only class on thursday is a discussion. I would imagine that the professors would send out an email if the discussion was canceled. Don’t think we’ll be doing much on thursday other than talking about the books we need, syllabus, etc. will probably be a short class.

i could be wrong, but if you don’t normally have class on thursday then why would you go to it this thursday? the first day of classes starts on thursday, meaning that if you have classes on monday or tuesday, it’ll probably start on the following week.

i just downloaded my study list from ursa, it has all my classes, lectures and discussions scheduled for the first day. are we supposed to go to all our classes or just the regular ones?

You should go to all your classes on Thursday/Friday of zero week unless you get an e-mail stating otherwise. You probably won’t do that much but I’ve had classes that that have started instruction day 1.

This is correct. It’s a regularly scheduled Thursday/Friday. The only difference is that discussion sections might be canceled or may only meet for a few minutes (especially for South Campus classes).

It is a regularly scheduled Thur/Friday. The iCalendar was a glitch. Unless your professor says otherwise.

Awesome. Thanks everyone!

Yes you should get an email if anything happens. my departmental advisor sent me (and i assume all other undergrads) an email reminding us that classes started on thursday.

If I’m waitlisted for a class, should I still attend the Thursday class even though it’s a discussion?

Yes you should still attend even if you are waitlisted.

it is very difficult to make your self comfortable in a new place like new school new college new office because no one knows you and same problem also face you! and first day of my class is too much boring and every girl and boy were busy with there friends and no one look for that new member of class:- (
