Hey guys. So I know this isn’t really a so important discussion but I ask this because I am just curious. What is the earliest first day of the fall semester you have yet experienced at a college and university. So if you have gone to both college and university, and both was on the semester system, then it would be nice to share the earliest first day of instruction for the fall semester you have experienced for both. If you don’t remember, you can check the academic calendar term dates of your college/university as well as listing its name (not in acronym form) [Only if you’re comfortable with it.] and the year it happened (just not personal info, but the ones listed there). It’s usually not too easy to search it up on that website itself but you can search it up on google and it gets you there faster. If it isn’t available directly, then check on the archive/earlier calendars if available. If not, then forget about it for that college. The earliest first day of fall semester instruction I have experienced for my college was 8/17/2015 at San Joaquin Delta College but it’s earliest I have seen it started was before I began college. That was 8/13/2013. The college I have seen start at its earliest was Merced City College on 8/11/2014. The university I have seen start at its earliest is a private university, BYU Hawaii on 8/1/2016 (Still not there as of this post posted) but it’s a trimester calendar where students can attend whichever term they wish and no term is a mandatory attendance moment, however, for 2017 it may be on 7/31 for that university. The earliest start for fall semester date seen for a university is 8/11/2016 for University of Georgia. By earliest start fall semester date, I am not speaking about summer session, but rather of a mandatory attendance session. The latest fall semester start dates, if you were wondering, is the day after labor day for public universities except for a few years, which makes it range from 8/30-9/6. For a private university, it can go to as late as 9/8, or a little later. There is at least one university on a semester system that has finals after winter break, that is Princeton University. They almost moved it to before Christmas Eve on 2007, but they didn’t. Its fall semester can begin as late as 9/15. As of its academic year of 2019-2020, which is the latest future calendar posted for Princeton University, still hold final examinations after winter break. Students in that university tend to be fine or like the idea of holding finals after winter break, but a growing number of students in that university are starting to prefer having finals before winter break, according to one source I remember not its article name.
My school’s fall semester begins on August 22, 2016. That’s the earliest I think it’s ever been.
My college starts on a Wednesday in August. The time frame is around end of the month: Aug 24 2016, Aug 27 2014,
It can also depend on if you have semesters, trimesters or quarters.

Move in day for colleges in 2017 is something that interests our family, including DS17, because of the “Great American Eclipse” on August 21, 2017. The date won’t be a deciding factor, but affects other travel plans to see the eclipse.

If you’ve never seen a total solar eclipse, they are completely unlike a partial solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse. They are absolutely stunning, and I’d highly recommend seeing one if you can sometime in your life. We’ve seen 3 1/2 (one got rained out for us, but it did get dark), and we are wanting to see this one. Wyoming is supposed to be one of the better places for not being clouded out.
My move in day is August 23rd but I have orientation for 5 days and class starts August 29

I know. like Ynotgo said, all colleges and universities on semester system as well as schools should really consider starting classes after August 21st, 2017. I am transferring to a university in Fall 2018, and I have suggested my college to start the fall semester the week after August 21, 2017. They’re on a 17 week semester so without suggesting them that, they would start classes instead in Monday, August 21, 2017. Many public community colleges on a semester system, especially in California, run on a 18 week semester instead of 17 or 16, therefore, those on 18 week semester ending on Friday, December 22, 2017, will still have to start in August 21, 2017, but if they have no holiday/day off in the week for Veteran’s Day in 2017, which will be on a Saturday, will be lucky enough to start in August 22, 2017. If the 18 week semester community colleges began in August 28, 2017 for 2017 fall semester, the fall semester would end after Christmas, which would be either on Friday, December 28, 2017; or Friday, December 31, 2017, but they would then instead have a winter break and have finals in the first week of January, which no colleges do that in these days, and students would dislike that happening very much.
Really hard to understand what your point is, but a suggested end date of Dec 38 or Dec 31 seems insane to me.
@elliebham I didn’t say December 38. No month has more than 31 days. What I mentioned is that if a community college on 18 week semester (2 weeks longer than the standard time length) plans on starting the fall semester after Monday, August 21, 2017 to allow students to view the full solar eclipse in an area where it will have a total solar eclipse, it can be Tuesday, August 22, 2017 due to not having Veteran’s Day as a day off or a substitute day of since it’s going to be on a Saturday in 2017 (that would have the last day of finals for fall semester 2017 to be on Friday, December 22, 2017), and that if a student suggests them to keep the 18 week semester but start a whole week later, then it would end after Christmas and that if they don’t suspend classes by one or two weeks, then that the last day of the fall semester finals would either be on Friday, December 28, 2017 if they do have no day off for Veteran’s day since it’s on a Saturday (but still ends on Friday then because Christmas Day 2017 would be on a Monday), or on Monday, December 31, 2017 if they do have Friday, November 10, 2017 off right before Veterans Day to observe that holiday. If that community college does suspend classes for two weeks under that calendar system, then the last day for the fall semester would be on Friday, January 13, 2018 or Thursday January 12, 2018 (if they have no substitute day off for Veterans’ Day), and if classes are suspended one week instead, then its last day can be anywhere from Wednesday, January 4, 2018 to Friday, January 6, 2018. But who would want to take finals after Christmas? Not me. And the sad thing is that many community colleges on 18 week semesters in California already approved its academic calendar for 2017-2018 academic year, starting before or on Monday, August 21, 2017. My community college was on an 18 week semester, but starting this fall it will start being a week shorter. So luckily, I was able to suggest them to start a week after August 21, 2017 and still able to take finals before Christmas, because starting classes on Monday, August 28, 2017 for a 17 week semester would have classes end finals in Friday, December 22, 2017, and they haven’t ended the semester that late probably in many decades, and if classes for 17 week semester starts in Monday, August 21, 2017, then it would end in Friday, December 15, 2017, and that college had classes end in a December 15 before, and even once in a December 14 (that was in 2012 when it was on 18 week semester length, going from Monday, August 13, 2012 to Friday, December 14, 2012 to keep students with their families just in case any bad thing happened the coming week because of the rumored End of the World in Friday, December 21, 2012. Nothing happened. Haha. I actually thought some severe things would happen, even in the beginning of that year in 2011 and before. Then, later in that year, I feared it would begin in June or July. Then even later, I feared it would begin in December. Yet later, I feared it would be on that week, and then on December 19, 2012 I feared it would be the day after (because we are one of the farthest behind time zones all over the world). Then rumors were proven wrong.)
I feel like you can safely assume that was a typo and that I was referring to your suggested date of December 28, but it seems clear you aren’t really interested in a discussion, given how unnecessarily verbose and lengthy all your posts are, so I’m not going to waste my time reading through that wall of text :-@

I move in August 18th. We have a week of workshops; it’s a program for at-risk students, often with low SAT scores but high GPAs.
My actual classes begin August 25th.
