Okay, I just kissed a spliff, so forgive me if I sound lifted. School officially starts on the 20th of August, Welcome Week begins the 24th and Instruction begins the 26th.
When am I supposed to come to school?
Are we supposed to come on the 20th? (Thank goodness for online registration cuz when I was younger we used to have to stand in looooong lines and go to different "stations"....)
What do we have to do for "Welcome Week"?
Or can we skip the festivities, wait until the 26th and come to class?

School starts August 20th for the officials mainly. Move in’s August 22nd or 23rd depending on your room if you’re living on campus. Instruction begins on August 26th. So if you’re living off campus, be sure to come a couple of days before that to adjust.

Welcome Week: [Welcome Week 2009](http://welcome.berkeley.edu/)

if you’re living in the dorms, then you come in on move in days. if you’re living off campus, then you can come on August 26th, which is when instruction officially starts. Welcome Week is optional but great for freshmen and transfers to see the Cal spirit. And also, that’s when Caltopia and Calapalooza happens, which are great ways to get free stuff and learn about the different organizations at Cal.

I live off campus and am an older student, so I really don’t think that going to a social event full of 18-20 year olds is something I want to do.
Thanks a lot for the info and saving me some time.
I’ll be there on the 26th for the first day of instruction!
