First Flight

This morning, for CAP, I had my first flight (not counting the southwest flights to florida). We took a Cessna Skyhawk accross Long Island from Mac Arthur Airport, circled the Montauk Lighthout, landed quickly in some airport I forget which (most northern top of LI) then landed back at Mac Arthur. I got great pics of scenary, the lighthouse, some Cold War ATC towers, Jerry Seinfelds house, and two F14’s and Black Hawks.

I got 1.0 hours of flying time. At first I couldn’t get it to stabalize, but after 5 minutes it was so easy. Loads of fun, can’t wait until the next time :-).

If anyone wants to see the pictures just ask and I’ll post them.

There's some pics. Yeah it's a Cessna, not too exciting, but it was my first time actually controlling an aircraft :)

Near beginning are the F14's and near the end are the cold war atc towers. i think seinfeld's house is in there too, it's the one with a baseball diamond (90% sure it's his).

sweet, i know how you feel man. Now, get in there alone, that is a surreal feeling. Did my first solo on my 16th b-day. I fly C-152's. It feels like an old car compared to 172's! Keep on going if you are pursuing a license, its loads of fun!

The 172 is a lot of fun. It's all you need to learn how to fly. I learned on a old 152 so whenever I can get in a 172 it feels amazing. Congrats.

Think you got F-14s mixed up with 18's

O yes sorry. My major said F18, not F14.

Gotta miss seeing the 14 around though...

...Top Gun? Anyone?

I hear they're retiring the F14 fleet.

Great thread! I got my first few flights for the soaring program just this morning. I've flown before, but flying without an engine is amazing. And different.

Man! I was in Civil Air Patrol for two years and I never flew! I wish I could, but I know I will at USAFA. My dad won't let me because he thinks flying is like dating. I'm too young and it's dangerous.

My Squadron guarantee's at least 5 flights before we graduate. Pretty cool. And each flight is usually more than 2 hours (1 hour for each cadet).

I think I'll be lucky if I get three flights before I graduate. All those little airmen have to have their chance to fly.

usafa21, are you from squadron 21?

I'm in Squadron 10. I wonder if anyone else from there goes on these forums.

I'm in squadron 283 in the New York Wing.

What's your grade and/or rank?
