First Gen College Student

<p>Recently I took a look at Amherst College's profile on CollegeBoard and found out with a shock that they put very high priority for admissions on whether the applicant will be a First Generation College Student or not.</p>

<p>My parents went to college, but in China. They have never attended any college here. (My mom was even a surgeon in China, but they told her that to practice here she would need to re-earn her degree) Am I a first gen college student then?</p>

<p>I would suggest you mark yourself as a First-generation student and then explain your situation in an essay. If they don't agree with you, they will jsut change. Each college has it's own standards with that by the way.</p>
