I have heard that Georgetown gives more consideration to first generation applicants than most of its peer universities. And, in fact, rates first generation applicants as “very important” in their Common Data Set. That being said, does anyone know if the overall acceptance rate for first gen students is higher by any notable margin?
As a rule universities do not release acceptance rates by demographic. First generation would fall into that category. So I’m going to say that no, no one on here will be able to provide that figure.
@northstarfx I don’t know how you can conclude that. Many other highly selective universities–Pomona, Amherst, Princeton, Columbia, Barnard, Smith, MHC, Oberlin–make special efforts to attract first generation students. They may rate it as “very important” in their Common Data Set but it is impossible to quantify that. What I would imagine is that being a first generation student puts you in pole position if you are otherwise qualified.
I will note, depending on your financial situation, if you are a first generation college student, you are probably eligible for the Georgetown Scholarship Program, which is really helpful for tons of people on campus
They don’t release the acceptance rate, but I remember seeing the percentage of the class that’s first gen on their website
