<p>Does being a first-generation student really help one's chances for admission? To what extent will it help you/hurt you (if it all).</p>
<p>It won’t hurt you; it can be a tip factor at some colleges.</p>
<p>Chances are it still won’t give me that extra push, my SAT scores are far too low for some of the schools I’m applying to (1890).</p>
<p>The key is to have a realistic list of admissions AND financial safety/mach/reach schools.</p>
