First Generation Question

Just looking for some clarification: Both of my parents attended college, but both dropped out. Would that make me a first generation attendee?

Yes, it would.

It depends on the school.

Usaully not, just to add to the confusion.

First gen means both parents did not go to college.

It depends. In this case, your parents have “some” college education.

Colleges have different definitions of first gen (eg. neither parent attended school past HS, neither parent earned a college degree, etc.), that’s why you’re never asked, “Are you a first gen?”. Take a look at the CA, you are asked for the college(s) your parents attended, what degree they earned and when, if any. Each college then determines if you fit into their definition of first gen.

No, if one parent went to college and earned a degree, their children would not be first gen under any definition.

Uhmm…wheres the discrepancy here?

Sorry, my mistake, read it incorrectly.
