How much do the UCs favor first generation college students? Is it that big a deal?

Depending which UC campus you apply to....

Some UCs favor as a big deal and some favor it lightly....

I wad admitted to every single one of the UC's as a first generation student so maybe they like it a lot? LOL I am not sure but it might have a lot to do with their selection.

what were your stats gaucho8?

well, I had a 4.435 weighed gpa, 1900 SAT's, 790 on spanish for SAT2, 600 on Match 11c, and 590 on Lit for Sat2. Overall I guess I had good extracuricular activities, but not as overloaded as I've seen other students. For example, I was a cheerleader for 4 years, NHS, CSF, AVID tutor, volunteered summers at the elementary school, etc. However, plenty of students who had around my stats were sometimes rejected from ucla and berkeley, which I know is normal, so I'm thinking the ethnicity issue (im hispanic) or the first generation issue had to do with the acceptances. I am not too sure though, as every school does do things differerently (or so I hear)

If you are asian, I don't think first generation means anything to UCs.

First generation being that neither of your parents went to college, nothing to do with ethnicity.

How many % of asian in California are first generation college student? A LOT. remember colleges does not know where your parents go to colleges if it is in asia. They are not going to ring up colleges in asia to check if you are telling the truth.

that's unfair to lie like that. few of us are actually really first generation or has parents who never even graduated high school. ME. but it's ok now i guess since i got into all the schools i applied to.
