<p>If my father went to a trade school in a country outside the US, but the college wasn't acknowledged or not credited in the US, am I a first generation student. </p>
<p>Also, I think he might have dropped out and not completed the school but I will ask him later.</p>
<p>I was in the same situation last year, and my counselor said I could put first generation college student if I wanted…so I did. Technically he didn’t graduate either…</p>
<p>Colleges and programs have different definitions of first gen, that is why college admission forums usually ask for the college history of your parents (school name, dates and degree earned, if any) rather than having a first gen ‘box’. They take the information you’ve provided and decide whether or not it fits their definition of first gen.</p>
<p>For programs/schools that have a first gen ‘box’, you need to ask what their definition is in order to give an accurate answer.</p>
