First Generation to College

@lookingforward I have always really enjoyed languages and music, and that is where most of my efforts have been focused.

My ECs for music are as follows: Regional cellist, school pit orchestra (rather intense, 80+ hours in 2 months, and counts as service), volunteering to help teach cello in an after school string orchestra (100 hrs), and hopefully I’ll make Allstate this fall (those ahead of me are graduating). Also, I take private lessons for an hour a week.

I am in NHS also, and have done some volunteering teaching math at a middle school nearby as a part of math team. Additionally, I plan on spending a lot of free time at a nearby hospital this summer volunteering.

I’m also currently trilingual (is Turkish valuable?) and planning on learning a 4th during PSEO next year (Chinese or Latin), but I’m not sure how good that is. I will be running for an office position that I think I am likely to win for German club as well. I have one teacher that is very inspired by me and thinks very highly of me, that I think I can count on to write me a very nice rec letter as well.

I know these ECs are kind of lacking outside of my Germany study scholarship, but I am going to hopefully work on it a lot during summer. Thanks again!

And to clarify the internship, it’s through a family connection with a professor. I’m not sure how great it will be or if it will even happen at all at this point…

And seriously? I am sure URM is not as big of a factor as you think it is.
