Congratulations again, and please do let us know what school you decide to attend!

You earned this! Enjoy meeting your new peers on your Accepted Students days..and go where your heart and mind are both nourished and stretched. send us some details on the fun stuff you are doing in April...

I visited 2 of the top 3- Columbia and UVA and although they are great schools, for a variety of reasons I felt that they weren't the right schools for me. So I am officially a Stanford Cardinal!!!! truly humbled and blessed...thanks for your well wishes and support....you don't know how your words have encouraged and motivated me, dealing with hating teachers and classmates ( WITH SAT SCORES LOWER THAN MINE LOL- Not because I'm black, but because Im blessed) so anywho I am excited about college..and if anyone has any insights as to what to expect and the rigors of college especially stanford I would appreciate it...I plan on majoring in poli sci and sociology: social stratification and inequality...

**for those wanting to know about Qbridge financial aid- parental contribution is 0....work study 2,500 and student contribution 1,700...but that can be convered with outside schoalrships...God is so good!

Congratulations!
I spent a year at Stanford in grad school. What a beautiful place it is!
Students are laid back, and nice. I liked the fact that there was an honor system, so you could take exams wherever you wanted including doing them by the fountains or under the citrus trees.

Professors were nice, too.

Supportive atmosphere overall.

Warmest wishes to you. Let us know how things go. Of course, as is the case with everyone, you'll have ups and downs possibly especially in those first few months as you get used to college, something that everyone goes through. Overall, I anticipate it will be a good experience for you.

Very, very happy for you! Maybe you can help others on CC with your future experience!

Yes, I hope you'll keep posting on CC and also will mentor other first gen and low income students on CC and in your hometown and college town.

From whom much is given, much is expected. :)

Congrats Mr. T!!! Let us know where you'll be attending law school, lol!

Mr. Tubbz, you'll love it at Stanford! Do come back and update us occasionally and provide inspiration to other first generation applicants.

Mr. Tubbz, I am thrilled Stanford admitted you, and even more that you picked them.

Mr Tubbz, Stanford is lucky :)
Best wishes for a fabulous four years of exploring the rich and exciting resources offered by this world-class school.

Mr. Tubbz - Just read through your thread, essay and the good news. I wanted to let you know how happy I am to read that you're on your way to do great things. Enjoy Stanford and hold tight to your dreams. May God continue to bless you.

Mr. T, thank you so much for letting us know your final decision. Congratulations!!!!!

You asked what to expect. Expect that it will be difficult at first. It will be tough to be away from home, to do your laundry, to go to lunch & not have a friend to sit with, to deal with a roommate, to close the door & realize you are on your own. But here's the thing ... as difficult as all that is at first, it is a necessary transition into adulthood ... it just all zaps you at once when you go away & live in a dorm! Know this going in, and you will understand that everything you feel is normal ... EVERYONE else is feeling it (even if they don't show it) ... and it won't last long.

As for academics, I imagine you will be challenged beyond your imagination. You have proven that you can rise to the challenge, though, so you'll be able to handle it. My suggestion is to make sure you take advantage of all that is offered ... tutoring, writing labs, profs' office hours, study groups. You will figure it all out quickly & you will shine for sure. My very best wishes as you walk through the amazing door that has opened for you! :)

This has made my day! Mr Tubbz I hope for your continued success and echo marinmom's wish for continued blessings.

As this year approached, I had to think and be thankful for all the support and kind words you guys gave to sustain me last year...I came here to people who know nithing about me and was accepted and loved, while in my own community I was met with hostility and "hate."

Stanford is the MOST amazing school in the nation, seriously I am love with the place!
If you guys know of any URM low income applicants to high school please put them in touch with me!

I am SO glad you posted! Thank you so much for letting us know that this story had a happy ending. We knew you would find success ... so happy to know we were right! :)

Thank you for coming back and posting this Mr. Tubbz. It's very gratifying to see a young person enjoying success and reaching his goals. Keep it up!

Mr. Tubbz, so kind of you to remember this group of anonymous parents and posters. You worked hard for your college admission options! I am sure you are working hard now. But you are fulfilled and happy, and in your "right place." We will enjoy hearing from you now and then so tell us what you are up to with Stanford and all of its magnificent programs...and where you end up focusing over time. We can enjoy hearing about Stanford vicariously through you. I don't know any Stanford students myself.

I know you are making a new set of friends that will be by your side in life after Stanford.

Happy New Year! My son is currently applying to many colleges till midnight each night this week...I hope he finds his "right place" as you have.

Mr. Tubbz,
Thank you so much for taking the time to update us and to offer to assist other students.
Warmest wishes to you as you continue your life's journey. I'm so glad that you've found such a good educational home.
