What's the difference between a first generation college student and a first generation immigrant?

First generation student = the first in the family to attend college

First generation person = an immigrant, NOT the descendent of an immigrant

Do first generation immigrants get some sort of advantage?

I don't think so. Maybe if you grew up in a different country where the culture was radically different, you could provide a dose of diversity. Otherwise, if you are as Americanized as anyone else, I don't see how/why colleges would implement such a policy as to give immigrants an advantage. I am a first-generation Canadian immigrant...I somehow don't think that will help much. I am a second-generation Indian immigrant. Had I been first-generation, brought up in a disadvantaged household in some desolate region of Kashmir, that would have certainly helped. It depends on your situation, I suppose.
