First Impression: New Lower (Sophmore) at Phillips Exeter

Um well math is definitely harder, and science (chem) we really haven’t started rolling yet and plus last year I took a very rigorous bio course. But I’m guessing science will be of or even greater intensity and math definitely is. It depends A LOT on the teacher though, from what I’ve heard. I absolutely love my chem teacher. He has a amount of homework, is fun, and makes sure everyone understands without over doing the examples

DITTO ON THE DORMS TUESDAYS!
we should pm and find out who each other is(:

Ommmg I take chem too, Gabi!

Math is definitely harder in that you’ve GOT to understand the concepts before going in. It isn’t ‘copy down the formula the teacher gives you and solve problems with it’- you’ve got to create your own formulas. But slowly slowly slowly you get a hang of it- math takes me about an hour each night.c

Same with Gabi on chem. (Btw, PM’d you back =D)

You guys can also try to meet urbanflop. I think she also goes to Exeter.

Have you joined any clubs yet? How is the cafeteria food?

Oh yeah, Invent! I’ve already met a number of people from here 8)

Other than community service clubs, not yet for me- Club Night is this weekend. And the dining hall(s)’ food is pretty good, actually. There’s new stuff everyday and you’ve got to appreciate the effort it takes for them to cook decent and good stuff for over 1000 people. Also we have a pasta bar, a sandwich bar, a soft-serve ice cream machine, dessert, baskets of fruuuit, drink fountains, a salad bar, and hot and continental breakfast. Yup.

For me, my math class is pretty easy. I’m in the transitional class though, so I’m sure it will get harder pretty soon. Chem is pretty easy for me so far because i already took it in high school, but it seems like we are moving along pretty quickly. I’m also in genetics which is a great class even though it’s already fairly challenging. Also, foreign language classes seem to progress very quickly here. The kids in my German class learned in one year what I learned in two years at my old school, but the challenge level is good for me.

Oh, and I’m an upper (who’s supposed to be doing my English homework right now!)

d-hall dessert is the best thing ever!! the have these pecan bars that are to die for, and a bunch of other stuff(:
club night (really afternoon) was today from 3-5!
i signed up for engineering club, astronomy club, german club, indian dancing club, chinese club, and the exonian…and some esso stuff but everybody says that its best to sign up for a lot and narrow it down to a few you are really interested in!

how’s the winter/fall been so far? i’m a californian and I’m anticipating that i’m going to freeze my butt off if I (fingers crossed!!) get in.

It’s been fairly cold, but it seems like we’ve been getting less snow than everywhere else in the country. Right now we just have a little dusting.

The whole NE is about to get a giant snowfall though, about a foot they said. Though, being NE, that is tentative.

@Rad-in-Plaid96,
Oh yes, sometimes the weather forecasters are inaccurate here in NE. However, my school’s already cancelled, so at this point, I don’t care about the snow. (As long as it doesn’t stop the mail)

mine too :]

Do you guys get snow days ?

i’m a new lower at exeter, and right now we have about fourteen inches of snow and it’s still coming down! people are just pushing each other into the snow and face planting! it’s hilarious (:

we’ve got sunny, 70 degree weather! That sounds like so much fun :)

You guys are so lucky…
I really want to go to execter and I’m pretty sure I’d get accepted if i applied, but I live all the way on the West coast and my parents don’t want me to live that far away from home :(

Your parents are right–you’ll have a chance to go East for college, but I believe most high schoolers can still use the support of their parents close by.
