<p>so, i have a few first impression turn offs about colleges. i know i'm not the only one. i also have turn ons too (let's be mature). i'll list a few, and everyone (yes, even YOU) can join in, add to the list, comment on others, etc.</p>
<p>i'll start:
Turn OFFS:
1. When a college's website is confusing or inadequate. if i can't find basic information, i get really annoyed.</p>
<ol>
<li><p>When a college spells my name wrong after i repeatedly correct them.</p></li>
<li><p>When a school keeps calling me, even if they are from halfway across the country despite me telling them i am NOT interested.</p></li>
</ol>
<p>Turn ONS:</p>
<ol>
<li><p>When they send me postcards that include my name in refernce to me being a student. like one school had a "hello my name is ________" and had my name scribbled there.</p></li>
<li><p>When they send me witty postcards. one from caltech had binary code that said happy holidays.</p></li>
<li><p>When they send me postcards for the holidays.</p></li>
<li><p>When an actual student HAND-writes me a letter/postcard.</p></li>
<li><p>When they have attractive mail sent to me, not just boring letters. I want it to catch my eye.</p></li>
<li><p>When they send me ALL necessary info (majors available, financial Aid, student groups, etc).</p></li>
<li><p>WHEN THEY ACTUALLY HAVE MY MAJORS.</p></li>
</ol>
<p>that's all i can think of now, i will post more as i think of them. now, it's your turn... GO!!!</p>
<p>Turn offs:</p>
<ol>
<li>When a college sends me flattering emails and whatnot, then I look them up and find out they don’t have a reputable marching band.</li>
</ol>
<p>Turn OFF:</p>
<ol>
<li>Lack of diversity in the student body…</li>
</ol>
<p>i agree with commonintuition… marine, i’m not a band person anymore 
but i feel your agony!</p>
<p>Turn OFF:
6. when it’s in the middle of nowhere (might be a turn on for some people)</p>
<p>Turn on:</p>

<li>When they have an excellent neuroscience program :D</li>
</ol>
<p>Turn on:</p>
<ol>
<li>When i visit, and the students are ALL SMILES and helpful (no campus can beat Yale lol. NOBODY had a straight face… kinda creepy but i liked it :))</li>
</ol>
<p>Turn off:</p>
<ol>
<li>When communal bathrooms are required for freshman. I’d rather live in a suite :o</li>
</ol>
<p>turn off:</p>
<ol>
<li>NO AIR CONDITIONING!
which basically rules out every school lol.</li>
</ol>
<p>Personally, the list is as follows… Some of these are really important and others are really trivial, haha.</p>
<p>Turn-offs: </p>
<p>-Tore-up atmosphere: broken windows/badly peeling paint/ripped seat cushions, you get the idea
-known as a “party school” or “sports school”
-music curriculum not open to contemporary styles ie. rock, R&B, jazz-fusion, etc.
-boring insides of buildings
-uppity faculty members
-middle of nowhere
-colleges who practically stalk me and send me a zillion e-mails even though I have no attention of ever applying</p>
<p>Turn-ons:
-gorgeous campus & insides of buildings
-fun and navigable website
-unique, innovative, and appealing music major
-friendly, personable faculty members
-big city career opportunities/internships
-hi-tech
-attractive guys, haha…</p>

<li>Crappy tour guides / info sessions.</li>

<p>10: when i visit a smaller school and they dont give us a free meal (mt holyoke gave us a lunch card, it was nice. plus it was only 3 of us, plus a few accepted girls… the big wave came the week before)</p>
<p>Turn offs:
-Emails that sound really menacing. “Rebecca, why haven’t we received your application?” “Rebecca, you only have a few days left”. Until we murder you.</p>

12. no ethnic, LGBTQ, womens, etc student clubs/ support groups. i’m sort of an activist (:</p>

<li>Schools where the girls proudly wear leggings.
Leggings are not pants, ladies.</li>
