^^ Yeah, but there’s no reason to give up safety for affordability.

^ You’re totally unsafe on campus. That’s why no students venture off campus on weekends and walk around drunk at 2 in the morning - everyone stays in their room and nobody has any fun. You might as well leave now.

Because Penn is an Ivy League school, students tend compare to Penn with the other Ivies. This is a very dangerous game to play because there will always be differences when compared to the other Ivies.

Let’s focus on Penn’s strengths so that future applicants won’t make the same mistake as the OP. It sounds to me like the problem is with the OP and his/her college selection process, not Penn. Penn never pretended to be anything that it is not. It has always been in Philly, it has always had frats and great parties, it has always had legacies, and it has three pre-professional schools (a LAC it is not). It never pretended to be full of super geniuses like HYP or have a beautiful campus like dartmouth or cornell. Penn has other things to offer.

My son and I visited Penn last spring and he loved the campus. He liked the feel of it, liked the students he met in the S-F dorm, and enjoyed the tour of the music building and pretty much everything else. Me, I didn’t care for it as much-felt too strange to have a school in the middle of downtown- but I’m not the one who would be going. He actually preferred it slightly over Princeton, probably because the people seemed a bit more down to earth. He very much enjoyed his time at Princeton, too, and his friends there were just nice as can be but maybe because he’s a laid back So Cal kid, the energy on the Penn campus was a little more like him. Both schools are tops on his list this year. He feels he could be happy at either one.

neither is nyc (“safe”)… i would think it goes without saying that for someone as ignorant as you, no city in the world is a safe place to be.

Just saying, if the first half of this thread was trying to scare away prospective students, it worked. I live in New York, but don’t actually think that badly of Penn.

Well I’d just like to add that I’m having a freaking awesome time. This place is great. You can’t possibly expect to have a good time if you aren’t friendly, excited, and welcoming from the moment you step on campus. Nothing in life is handed to you, especially not your social life. Since I’ve been here and seen the same things as you, HafsaRox, I can only infer that our experiences differ largely due to attitude and perspective. Using crappy lighting as validation of the claim “Penn sucks” is entitled *****ing at its worst. It’s honestly absurd how some, including you, expect someone else to make your life perfect. Do yourself and Penn a favor and transfer, but don’t be surprised if you hate your new school too.

And I completely agree with 1789. Penn is clear that it’s a pre-professional school in Philadelphia and a mix of Ivy league and state school spirit. I signed up for that. Maybe you didn’t, but that’s not Penn’s fault.

I love Penn and so do most people I talk to.

…but honestly life gets so much better come sophomore year, the dynamic of your life changes alot.

Lol I don’t look at CC for a few weeks and the first thing I see now is HafsaRox being a ■■■■■ again… Get over yourself. I personally am having a great time here.

Hey, I’m a frosh, and I’m having the time of my life, maybe that’s just me. This is the happiest I’ve ever been in my entire life and although Penn has irritating things about it; I really couldn’t be more happy. I’ve met some of my best friends from every school imaginable, and even though I find it difficult academically, I’m still very happy.

As for anti-intellectualism, I haven’t found that to be the case at all. You’re just not seeking the right outlets. Also, maybe it’s because I live in KCECH, but my dorms are really nice…

^ add me on fb lmao, and I’m having a pretty good time for the most part also

I am pretty sure Haf… w.e. that ■■■■■ is, is literally trolling ALL OVER THE PLACE!

I am a Junior in Highschool and is planning to apply there.
The school has a great programs and I respect their atmosphere.

However, I did have one of my friend who went there and said it was O.K.
But the majority says its great. Maybe that freshmen dude is not even worth going there…

I’m an international too as he or she (■■■■■) said.

What the **** are you doing? Why not transfer out if you could’ve gone to much “better” schools.
You sure are doing nothing good to yourself by making your school look bad all over the internet. I saw your student comment on the U.S. News HAHAHAHAHAHA and you are so afraid that you put your name as “!!!”. Get a life and enjoy (IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY PENN STUDENT) UPenn’s great feature.

I’m not even in UPENN but you are making all of us mad. I guess that’s what your trying to do.

Can anybody say what the political climate is like at UPenn?

Penn’s Political Climate: Occupied

???
Is it more conservative or liberal?

Among Wharton students, it is predominantly socially liberal and fiscally conservative; among the other schools’ students, it is predominantly liberal, as one would expect at any top university.

As a conservative, it was a little lonely freshman year, but regardless of political affiliation you will be able to find someone to agree with or, at least, to have a conversation with.

That said, there are a whole hell of a lot of people who take political stances because it’s the cool thing to do, and those people rarely want to do anything but yell about their views (kind of like the talking heads on Fox/MSNBC, when you think about it!)

I see, I see.
I laugh to myself now that I think about who really funded the Huntsman Program. Sigh…

BTW, how much of influence/presence does The Daily Pennsylvanian have on campus? I wasn’t too impressed with the online newspaper.

^ You can read about The Daily Pennsylvanian here:

It’s actually one of the better college papers in the country.

Also, you can see what the print edition looks like every day by clicking on the photo of the front page at the bottom of the home page, and downloading a .pdf of the entire issue:
