hi all, i already posted this question on yahoo but i thought i would get some more feed back here as well. So here it is
Summer grades just came out and I got my first c in my major class ( my excuse is I'm working 2 part time jobs and come in its summer, I got relax a bit lol). Now I wouldn't worry as much if my major is Chem or bio cuz I know those classes are hard so a lower gpa is acceptable. But I'm a psych major and there's a lot of ppl out there with this major and a high gpa. What should I do?? My overall gpa is a bare 3.48 but my major gpa is a 3.1. What if I don't get into any research assistant Positin with my low major gpa?? Someone tell me it's okay ??i am aiming to go tO graduate school and graduate in three years.

Well, perhaps you should focus on your writing skills and studies… Anyway, one C, especially early on, is easily forgivable provided you improve your grades and maintain a better GPA. In psychology especially, where undergrads are a dime a dozen, you need to get serious quickly, or you won’t be able to compete.

If you’re a Psych Major, and are serious about being some uber-psychologist, then you have at least three more years after undergraduate studies before you start applying to a real job (i.e. one that cares at all about your GPA)… You speak of (undergraduate?) research positions, but Professors make their decision regardless of their intern’s GPAs. They have tenure (or whatever the equivalent term is across the Pond). As long as they don’t kill someone in public they can get away with anything. At least, that’s how it reads to me.

You’re making a mountain out of molehill. You got a long journey ahead of you. Don’t make it a habit, and don’t make it affect your future performance.
