First Job Interview

I have an interview tomorrow for Sam's club and wondering if anyone has any advice?

Thanks

Moon the interviewer.

dress to impress

smile

be confindent

know the company and position you and interviewing for

anticipate potential questions

portray yourself as a patient person, in retail jobs they look for people who will deal with these people. This is a big make or break question, ive had this in 4 out of 5 job interviews

just relax and be friendly.
dont practice either...i find it messes me up because im trying to remember rehearsed answers. but think a little about what they might ask you

If you are going to college next fall or going back to school, don't bring it up. If they bring it up, don't lie, but no need to draw attention to the fact. That's been the end of every interview since the end of senior year of high school.

"Oh, I see you've graduated from high school; are you going to college?"
"Yes, sir."
"So you'll be leaving in the fall."
"Yes."
"Okay, well thanks for coming in. We'll let you know."

But you know what, they never let you know.

I interviewed for Sam's Club in March 1995, I did not get the position for two reasons. I didn't dress up for the interview, and my pager kept going off. Avoid these two snafus and you will be good to go.

a pager :)

rofl

Good luck to the OP! Be kind, considerate and dress well!

it's sams club... so don't really worry about dress... a polo shirt and khaki pants will be fine...don't go overboard

it's kind of hard NOT to get a job at these places...so just don't do anything stupid (for ex. cell phone going off), and you'll be fine

i understand it's your first interview... so just try to relax and not be to worried...things go wrong when you become nervous... so just relax and be yourself :)

What am I suppose to say with me going to college if they ask? I'm afraid if I tell them I'm going to college (OOS) then I won't get the job.

I think it doesnt really matter how you look. When I was interviewed for the my job, I had hair down past my shoulders and a chinstrap. I was wearing birkenstocks and a bad brains t-shirt. I looked far from professional. In fact, for the first three months I worked there, everyone thought I was a huge pothead. What's important is to have good, lengthy anwsers to their questions. You don't really have to know what you're talking about, just sound like you do.

i think dress plays some sort of role but since its sams club just dress like you care about how you look.

If they ask you if you plan to go to college just say that you will be going away to college but will be able to work from this time to that

or if you don't need the job in the future you could always say you'll be defering a year, then when fall rolls around say you changed your mind.

I miss being a pothead :( Alas, I have no one to smoke with now that I'm not at school. Yes, I know, it wasn't a question. I just saw the comment about pot heads, and had to express myself.

Also, think up what your weaknesses and strengths are in advance. That's one of the ones they'll ask where your answers are really hit or really miss because you don't want your weakness to be too weak, and you don't want to sound like your bragging with your strengths.

Don't pick your nose in front of the interviewer.

I mean, it's not really fair that the world works like this. Because picking your nose on occasion would certainly not impair your ability to get your job done properly. But people make assumptions about these things, and it'll create a negative first impression.

That's my advice.

act as if working at sam's club was the dream of your lives.

lawl...

well if you don't intend on working there anymore do the following:
say you have all the necessary skills (even if you don't) and worry about it later.
If he asks if you'll be going away for college say no, you'll be attending a local university and you can work part time, and then ditch during the fall.

list "corporate take overs with Donald Trump" as one of your previous jobs

Use high level SAT vocabulary

Just out of curiosity, OP, how much time elapsed from the time you applied, to the time you received notification of your interview?

I've been working the job for two weeks lol. $8.95/hr, not bad I guess considering it's in the midwest and I have no previous experience.

They hired me right after the interview. They said, this is what we'll pay you, now fill out these forms.
