I have been lurking here for a while. For the most part I have learned a great deal from the various topics and posting. I have one question to start and a couple of quick comments.

First of all, this chancing thing is unreal. I am amazed at the accomplishments of so many young people. Good luck to all.

My one question is about likely letters. Does Dartmouth send them out to any ED candidates or is it just athletes and RD?

Thanks for any input and all the prior info I have taken from the forum.

They don't send likely letters to ED candidates at all. They send them out to some RD candidates, but not to all who are ultimately accepted. So, while a likely letter is certainly a good thing to get, its absence doesn't mean anything.

(I think they do it just to be mean and throw more confusion into the process!! :) )

As VeryHappy said ED candidates don't get likely letters. Only RD. They send them (or at least in the past sent them) starting in early February. I think they send them in a few waves, maybe two or three. I think they send a total of about 500. I agree that it's absence doesn't mean anything, but boy is it great to get one! It doesn't just say it's likely you'll get in. It actually says you will be accepted.

Makes sense that they don't send them.
My D situation is a little different, she is an athlete, although not on that short list of athletes that a coach gets to submit to admissions.

She has the qualifications to stand on her own to give her a good shot. Her academic index puts her in the high band for athletes at Dartmouth so the coach is trying to give a little nudge if possible. Just trying to collect as much info as possible
