Hello, I am just entering my junior year of HS and I just took my first practice ACT. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they are good?

I plan to study a lot to hopefully improve them. My dream school is UCSB but I only have a 3.5 GPA. So obviously I would need high test scores!

I used the Red ACT book, (blanking on the name,) but it is the one made by the makers of the ACT

Composite- 28
English- 27
Math- 25
Reading- 33
Science- 25
Composite- 28

Thanks everyone!!!!

With dedicated prep you might be able to break into the 30s.
I would definitely focus on improving math.

veryclueless- I definitely plan to study a lot, math is always my lowest so I really need to work on that. I am using the Boost your score software which should help, it pinpoints your weakest areas and then provides additional help and practice problems.

A 28 for a first time with no studying shows me that you can break mid 30s easily. I was scoring below a 20 when I had just started practicing, and I raised it to a 27 on the actual thing and I can now score at least a 30, but I am hoping that I could score a 32.

Buy Barron’s ACT 36, The Real ACT, and Cracking the ACT. If you need more practice exams, you can always get the free one ACT offers online on a PDF, old release exams, or simply Princeton Review’s 1296 questions. Good luck!

u are def on the right track

On my first attempt at the act i got a 28 composite with no studying:
27e
33m
27r
24s

I lightly studied for a couple months and brought it up to a 30. I’m taking it again on saturday to hopefully get 32+
