First quarter freshman registration

Am I correct that incoming freshmen all register with the same registration priority?

If so, would it be difficult to get into:

CHEM 145
BIOL 180
CHIN 111

for my first quarter at the UW? (For Chem 145, I received a 5 on the AP Chemistry examination.) Or perhaps I should plan on taking BIOL 180 a different quarter?

After the first quarter, my class standing will be, at the least, junior standing so I will have better registration priority. It is simply that first-year first-quarter registration is an uncertain matter. I believe from the UW website that all incoming freshmen register simultaneously, but I would appreciate confirmation. I am attempting to draft a course schedule for my time at UW and a comprehensive, detailed schedule for my first two years of study. Thus I will need to know if registration will prove difficult my first quarter at the UW.

Thank you in advance.

Incoming freshman register during their orientation. There are orientation dates all throughout the summer. TRY, TRY to get a very early orientation (I had the 2nd one in June last summer and had no problem getting in classes, but people with August registration dates weren’t always happy with their schedules for Fall).

In May-ish, UW will let incoming students know about how to register for orientations online. They do registration for incoming students at orientation so people know how to use the time schedule and how to register for classes for other quarters.

After fall quarter, then you will register with other junior standing students (ie. going into winter quarter), not with freshman (0-44 credits) students.

hi… I’m a freshman at UW at the moment
Freshman register on their registration date, so get the earliest one possible.
Not many sophomores, juniors, or seniors take genchem (145), so you’re good there
not sure about chin 111
you have about a .0001% chance at biol180. it’s a class meant for sophomores, anyways.
at registration, they will help you with classes that fit your desired major. sorry to say it, but don’t count on biol180.

It’s easier to get into BIOL 180 winter quarter, but there could be spots still open for Autumn. It’s possible, but don’t count on it. The easiest way to get into that class is taking the first orientation spot (your registration date) possible. Aka… don’t go on vacation in late June ;)

BIOL 180 is meant for sophomores? How peculiar, I have been thinking of it as a class meant for freshmen. Regardless, I suppose I will simply have to plan for this opportunity.

Thank you everyone for your assistance! I have been a bit confused about freshman registration, but your comments have helped me greatly. I really appreciate all the help I am getting on my threads.

Just a guess, but I’m thinking that freshman usually finish CHEM 142 series before taking BIOL 180. There are definitely freshmen in BIOL 180, though.

Sorry if I made it seem like NO freshman are in 180, that’s not true, there are.
However, I’m majoring in bioengineering, and talking to advisors, I have found that biol180 should be taken sophomore year.

A little tip; when registering for winter quarter, you go by credits (0-45 credits = freshman, register last; 45-90 credits = sophomore, register 3rd; etc.) If you have incoming credits that put you at sophomore status after fall quarter, you might be able to get Biol180. Also, you can have an upperclassmen “save” the class for you (the upperclassmen registers for the class and then you guys pick a time when (s)he drops it/you sign up for it). My friend did this, and so he’s a freshman taking 180 next quarter.
I wouldn’t sweat not getting it first quarter, it’s really no big deal. And if you do, congrats, I’ll see you in class :P

I am actually a junior, so unless you will take BIOL 180 in the autumn of 2012, I don’t believe I will be seeing you there (although I would have looked forward to it).

I believe I will have senior standing by second quarter if I don’t horribly mess up my AP exams in some fashion. Hopefully I will be able to get into BIOL 180 and/or have a friend hold the class for me!
