First quarter grades

How heavily are first quarter grades factored into an early admissions decision? My grades, while not atrocious, are hardly stellar.

Most schools don’t get first quarter grades. It’s your transcript from the last three years, and then a mid-year report later.

But if yours are sent in, you can expect them to be a big deal. Unless the college admissions peeps are ‘understanding’. How selective they are and how awesome you otherwise are will be major factors determining whether this is the case.

I’m not sure how heavily weighted they are in an admissions descion. I know for Duke personally, you have to submit them in order to get a descion, but they say that they will review your app without them. If you are applying to a selective school, however, they are often looking for something to distinguish you from another similar applicant, and you don’t want anything such as a bad first quarter to be the ultimate deciding factor.
