I'm applying early to Dartmouth and I was wondering whether Dartmouth calls the school or requests first quarter grades. My school is technically on a semester system (1st quarter grades are either averaged with 2nd quarter or the semester grade is cumulative; quarter grades never go on a transcript).

My school is on the same system. Our deans said that some schools call in asking for all ED applicants' first quarter grades and other schools just don't care. Ask your dean how Dartmouth deals with it. Just work hard first quarter. They only care that you're not randomly getting a D.

You should ask your guidance counselor what is it that they send to the colleges for ED candidates. Because many first semesters end at the beginning of the year, it is not unusual for colleges to send your transcript up to the end of your junior year and grades from the first marking period at your school. The college will sometimes ask the school for your first marking period grades especially before making a decision on a boardline student.
